Hi everyone! I’m Alisha.
Welcome to Conversational Phrases!
We’ve found that the best way to learn a language is to speak it from day one! And the best way to start speaking is to learn phrases that you’ll use in real conversations.
In this lesson, you’ll learn conversational phrases to use when talking with friends. After watching this video, you’ll be able to have a casual conversation with a friend, and to say something is “super.”
Now, let’s take a look at some conversational phrases!
Listen to the dialogue.
ほら、あのくるまみて! (Hora, ano kuruma mite!)
うわー、とてもかっこいいね! (Uwā, totemo kakkoii ne!)
Once more with the English translation.
ほら、あのくるまみて! (Hora, ano kuruma mite!)
“Hey, look at that car!”
うわー、とてもかっこいいね! (Uwā, totemo kakkoii ne!)
“Wow, that's super cool!”
First of all you'll need to learn how to say “Hey, look at that car!”
That's:
ほら、あのくるまみて! (Hora, ano kuruma mite!)
Listen to it again:
ほら、あのくるまみて!, ほら、あのくるまみて! (Hora, ano kuruma mite!, Hora, ano kuruma mite!)
This Japanese sentence literally translates as "Hey, that car look!” But it means “Hey, look at that car!”
Now, how do you respond to this?
First of all, you’ll need to learn how to say “wow” . That’s
うわー, うわー (uwā, uwā)
Then, you’ll need to learn how to say “That’s super [adjective].”
The pattern is:
とても [adjective] ね。 (Totemo [adjective] ne.)
This Japanese sentence literally translates as "Very [adjective] it is.” But it means “That's super [adjective].”
For example:
“Wow, that's super cool!”
うわー、とてもかっこいいね!, うわー、とてもかっこいいね! (Uwā, totemo kakkoii ne!, Uwā, totemo kakkoii ne!)
