Hi everyone! Welcome to Japanese Top Words! Today, we are going to learn Top 10 Natural Disaster-related Words.
レッツラゴー! (Rettsuragō!)
1. 洪水 (kōzui) "flood"
ジープが洪水の中を何とか進んでいる。 (Jīpu ga kōzui no naka o nantoka susunde iru.) "The jeep is pushing through the flood."
2. 台風 (taifū) "typhoon"
台風が上陸した。 (Taifū ga jōriku shita.) "The typhoon has hit."

3. ハリケーン (harikēn) "hurricane"
ハリケーンが、海から吹き込んできている。 (Harikēn ga, umi kara fukikonde kite iru.) "The hurricane is blowing in from the sea."
日本であまりハリケーンは聞きません。 (Nihon de wa amari harikēn wa kikimasen.)
日本であんまりハリケーンは聞かないんですけど、台風はよく来ます。 (Nihon de anmari harikēn wa kikanai n desu kedo, taifū wa yoku kimasu.)

竜巻が町に近づいている。 (Tatsumaki ga machi ni chikazuite iru.) "The tornado is approaching the town."
5. 津波 (tsunami) "tsunami"
津波が町を襲った。 (Tsunami ga machi o osotta.) "The tsunami hit the city."
6. 雪崩 (nadare) "avalanche"
雪崩がスキーリゾートを破壊したが、幸運なことに、誰も怪我人はいなかった。 (Nadare ga sukī rizōto o hakai shita ga, kōun na koto ni, dare mo keganin wa inakatta.) "The avalanche destroyed the ski resort, but luckily, nobody was injured."

7. 火事 (kaji) "fire"
消防士達が、梯子に登って、火事と格闘している。 (Shōbōshi-tachi ga, hashigo ni nobotte, kaji to kakutō shite iru.) "The fire fighters are fighting the fire on the ladder."
8. 地震 (jishin) "earthquake"
地震で地面が揺れている。 (Jishin de jimen ga yurete iru.) "The earthquake is shaking the ground."
9. 砂嵐 (suna'arashi) "sandstorm"
砂嵐がやってきた。 (Suna'arashi ga yattekita.) "The sandstorm has touched down."
10. 火山噴火 (kazan funka) "volcanic eruption"
町は火山噴火によって生じた灰に覆われた。 (Machi wa kazan funka ni yotte shōjita hai ni ōwareta.) "The town was covered by the ash from a volcanic eruption. "
