I have noticed that the kanji for the words “konnichiwa” and “kyou” are the same. How do you tell the difference between the two?

Juan(ホアン) さん、
Konnichiwa.
Mono is physical object.
Koto is what happens.
For example,
Kinou kata mono wa youfuku desu.
The thing which I bought yesterday is clothes.

Kinou shita kotow a kaimono desu.
What I did yesterday is shopping.
