Do you know any other kanji with the radical 言?

avatar Nana Sunday at 2:11 am

Hi, Japanese Pod101. I have a question. In Kanji, 好 is pronounce as ’su’, isn’t it? But, why its meaning is ‘SUKI’ /(like) ? 私わ好きです。If that 好 means ’suki’, what is the needed to use き after that word?

「言のradical」という一つが単語を覚えています! >。

Megan Somers san,
Konnichiwa.
Thank you for your comment and request.
言 indicates something to say for languages or words becaue it is read as いう(いいます)in kun-reading.
If you have any questions please feel free to ask us.

I actually don’t know much kanji. :disappointed: Isn’t the radical ” 言 ” a character within itself, though? It’s used when words are necessary, right? In reading, writing, speaking, etc…?

I think, what would make these lists more helpful is a video or infographic/picture on how to write the characters, examples of what the kanji or radicals are used for (their general meaning(s)), and I think more example sentences would be good, and also examples using compound words to be put together. Could you also separate each part of the kanji by two different colors, like red and dark purple, or green and dark yellow? Also, put each radical’s meaning and use those to explain the meaning? Like, say one character is “write” + the other other character is “river” and that equals “kun” (Japanese reading of a kanji, teaching, precept) (write + river = kun [訓]). Hopefully that made sense.

I don’t know much kanji at all. So, I hope I’ll be able to learn lots more!

語? 話して?

avatar JapanesePod101.com Monday at 11:43 am

Hi everyone, Thank you for all your comments!
We’re looking at ways to improve these lists. Could you tell us what would be helpful?
For example, would you rather see characters in sample sentences? Or put together to make compound words?
Thanks again!
