Lesson 17.
Watch Out For This Kanji!.
In today’s kanji video lesson, you learn how to draw and pronounce the kanji for eyes.
Learn the 音読み (on'yomi) and 訓読み (kun'yomi) readings as well as some super easy tricks for memorizing this Japanese kanji.
Okay let’s draw the kanji for this lesson. The meaning of this kanji is eye.
Now we are going to have a trick for memorizing this kanji in just a minute but let’s first look at the reading.
Remember there are two readings in Japanese kanji? One is 音読み (on'yomi) the On reading, the other one is 訓読み (kun'yomi) , the Kun reading. Long story short, the On reading comes from Chinese and the Kun reading comes from Japanese.
Now let’s look at the On reading for today’s kanji. The On reading for this kanji is モク (moku). The Kun reading for this kanji is め (me) .
Now remember the trick that I was telling about? Let’s look at that now.
You can kind of see the eyes here. It’s kind of scary but you get the point.
Now let’s look at how to draw this kanji. Pay attention to the stroke order, it’s very important. Start from the left top 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. Let’s try one more time. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.
Now let’s look at some sample words.
Ta-dah.
The On reading for this kanji is moku. Here we have ちゅうもく (chūmoku) this word means to pay attention.
The Kun reading for this kanji is me. Here we have めだま (medama). This word means an eyeball or a star item.
