Do you know how to make plans in Japanese?
Welcome to Three Step Japanese Practice by JapanesePod101.com. In this lesson, you will practice how to make plans.
Let’s look at the main dialogue.
Two people are having a conversation.
あした、よていがありますか。(Ashita, yotei ga arimasu ka.)
Do you have plans for tomorrow?
いいえ、あしたはひまですよ。(lie, ashita wa hima desu yo.)
No, I’m free tomorrow.
じゃ、わたしの ジムでトレーニングをしますか。
Ja, watashi no jimu de torēningu o shimasu ka.
Well then, would you like to train at my gym?
Let's break it down a little.
When this character
Says
わたしの ジムでトレーニングをしますか(watashi no jimu de torēningu o shimasu ka.)
They are asking this character
If he wants to do something together. To establish what they plan to do, he says
トレーニングをしますか(torēningu o shimasu ka)
Which means, "do you want to train?" トレーニング, training, is followed by the object marking particle を (o).
That means when he says します (shimasu), a verb that means "to do," training is what they will do.
To say where they plan to train, he starts the sentence with わたしの ジムで (watashi no jimu de).
わたしの (watashi no) means "my," ジム (jimu) means "gym," and で (de) is the location marking particle. So, it's like saying "at my gym."
