Do you know how to express likes and preferences in Japanese? |
Welcome to Three Step Japanese Practice by JapanesePod101.com. In this lesson, you will practice how to express likes and preferences. |
Let’s look at the main dialogue. |
Two people are having a conversation. |
ところで、ながおかさんは ひまなとき、 何をするのが すきですか。 |
Tokorode, Nagaoka-san wa hima na toki, nani o suru no ga suki desu ka. |
By the way, Nagaoka, what do you like to do in your free time? |
ひまなときは あまり ありませんね。 でも 休みの日は、 9時ごろまで ねるのが すきです。 |
Hima na toki wa amari arimasen ne. Demo yasumi no hi wa, ku-ji goro made neru no ga suki desu. |
I don’t have much free time. But on my days off, I like to sleep until around nine. |
By using のが after the dictionary-form ねる, the speaker makes the verb function as a noun, and marks it as the subject of that sentence. |
Let’s practice with this grammar more in this lesson. |
