Do you know how to express likes and preferences in Japanese?
Welcome to Three Step Japanese Practice by JapanesePod101.com. In this lesson, you will practice how to express likes and preferences.
Let’s look at the main dialogue.
Two people are having a conversation.
ところで、ながおかさんは ひまなとき、 何をするのが すきですか。
Tokorode, Nagaoka-san wa hima na toki, nani o suru no ga suki desu ka.
By the way, Nagaoka, what do you like to do in your free time?
ひまなときは あまり ありませんね。 でも 休みの日は、 9時ごろまで ねるのが すきです。
Hima na toki wa amari arimasen ne. Demo yasumi no hi wa, ku-ji goro made neru no ga suki desu.
I don’t have much free time. But on my days off, I like to sleep until around nine.
By using のが after the dictionary-form ねる, the speaker makes the verb function as a noun, and marks it as the subject of that sentence.
Let’s practice with this grammar more in this lesson.
