Yes, usually listening is more difficult than reading.

So please do listen the audio again and again to improve your listening skill!

Hi Michael,

Thank you for your comment!

Yes, ็Ÿฅใ‚Šใพใ›ใ‚“ใ‹ is just the same pattern of [verb] plus ใพใ›ใ‚“ใ‹, inviting someone to do something.

But this is not the case with some verbs, like ็Ÿฅใ‚‹ (to know), ๅˆ†ใ‹ใ‚‹ (to understand), ใ„ใ‚‹ (to exist) and so on.

These verbs indicate the state or condition, not action.

So you cannot use them to invite someone to do it.

็Ÿฅใ‚Šใพใ›ใ‚“ใ‹ is just a question if you know it or not.

We often use this negative form plus ใ‹, the question particle to ask something

and it sounds more polite and modest๐Ÿ˜Š

Hope you enjoy learning Japanese with us:)

Hello,

I am not sure how to interpret ็Ÿฅใ‚Šใพใ›ใ‚“ใ‹. On its own, ็Ÿฅใ‚Šใพใ›ใ‚“ means "do not know".

But there is also a -ใพใ›ใ‚“ form, which I think is used when you ask someone if they want to, like to 'verb' something. Such as:

ใ‚ใ—ใŸใ€ใ‹ใ„ใ‚‚ใฎใซใ„ใใพใ›ใ‚“ใ‹

ใˆใ„ใŒใ‚’ใฟใพใ›ใ‚“ใ‹

Is this what is being done with ็Ÿฅใ‚Šใพใ›ใ‚“ ?

Konnichiwa Hugh,

Thank you for asking!

ใใ†ใ™ใ‚‹ใจ means more closer to "Then".

Keep up the good work and Feel free to ask us any questions.

Hi Jessica,

Thank you for your comment!

I don't think you're missing something, but I think it's just how you understand the conversation.๐Ÿ˜„๐Ÿ‘

This is how I got. She's not familiar with the area so she doesn't even know if there's a bus stop.

There might be, there might be not. That's why she asked "do you know if there's a bus stop near here?"

If she knew there was a bus stop somewhere but just didn't know how close she was, "Do you know the bus stop near here?" would make more sense.๐Ÿ˜„

Please let us know if you have any other questions!

Best regards,

Izumi

Wouldn't a better translation for ใ“ใฎ่ฟ‘ใใซใ‚ใ‚‹ใƒใ‚นใฆใ„ใ‚’็Ÿฅใ‚Šใพใ›ใ‚“ใ‹

be "Do you know the bus stop near here?" rather than "do you know if there's a bus stop near here?" It seems like the lady already knows that the bus stop exists. Am I missing something?

Hi Luke T,

Thank you very much for asking the question and sorry for our late reply.

"So ใ€Œใพใฃใ™ใใ€is "straight." But what doesใ€Œใ™ใ™ใ‚“ใงใ€mean? And how aboutใ€Œใพใฃใ™ใใ™ใ™ใ‚“ใงใ€?"

>> The stem word for ใ™ใ™ใ‚“ใง is ใ™ใ™ใ‚€ which means "to advance; to go forwardโ€‹."

Therefore,ใ€Œใพใฃใ™ใใ™ใ™ใ‚“ใงใ€means "go straight."

Hi Samy S,

Thank you for the question! That's a good question. I will ask the lesson development team.

Sincerely,
