Here only ใฎ works. If you're talking about the existence of the book, then you can use ใซ as ใ‚ใฎใŸใชใฎไธŠใซๆœฌใŒใ‚ใ‚Šใพใ™ใ€‚

Hi,

In the phrase ใ‚ใฎใŸใชใฎไธŠใฎๆœฌใ‚’่ฆ‹ใŸใ„ could it be possible to use ใ‚ใฎใŸใชใฎไธŠใซๆœฌใ‚’่ฆ‹ใŸใ„ instead? Any reason to favor the usage of ใฎ vs ใซ here?

Thank you for the clarification!

Hi Hana.Mizu,

Thank you for your comments!

As for your comment, ใŸใฎใ‚“ใงใ„ใพใ™, you are absolutely right.

"[Te-form of a verb] + ใ„ใ‚‹" expresses a present continuing action.

The Newbie_Mike's explanation is, however, just a breakdown but not mistake.

If your explanation is added, it would be perfect!

And about ใฎ of ่ฆ‹ใŸใ„ใฎ, it's from the phrase ่ฆ‹ใŸใ„ใฎใงใ™ใŒ.

"[masu-stem of a verb] ใŸใ„ + ใฎใงใ™ใŒ" is a phrase often used to make a request.

You can check the usage form this lesson.

https://www.japanesepod101.com/lesson/beginner-lesson-s5-4-new-lesson/

(In this lesson, ใ‚“ใงใ™ใŒ is used, which is more casual than saying ใฎใงใ™ใŒ)

Hi Nicolas,

Thank you for posting!

ใฟใŸใ„ followed after a noun, plain form of a adjective or a verb, has the meaning of "it seems..."

But ่ฆ‹ใŸใ„ in this lesson is not that.

่ฆ‹ใŸใ„ is from the verb ่ฆ‹ใ‚‹ plus ใŸใ„(the auxiliary adjective), which means "want to see/look."

Please check it up at this lesson.

My question about ใฎ after่ฆ‹ใŸใ„, is it a pronoun replacing the thing spoken of previously, similar to "Whose X is this?" "Watashi no."

Newbie_Mike's generous contribution includes a second possible mistake (which I saw after my last post/question):

incorrect translation?= Newbie_Mike wrote: "Note: the ใฎ after่ฆ‹ใŸใ„ softens it from โ€œwant to seeโ€ to โ€œwould like to seeโ€."

1. Is the whole construction to require a softer translation ?

2. Notwithstanding the possible affirmative answer to question 1, does the ใฎ after่ฆ‹ใŸใ„ mean "it" ?

3. I would like to know more about the use of ใฎ as explained below in a "difficult situation". In addition to "difficult situation" and/or "softening" does the ใฎ also mean "it" ?

Thank you in advance for your attention and concern.

only 1 suggested correction of Newbie_Mike's generous contribution in the comments:

Newbie_Mike explained " ... ใŸใฎใ‚“ใง(te form of ask/request) ใ„ใพใ™(exists)ใ€‚", however, it would seem to me that the "exists" part should not be separated from the "te form", because the PRESENT CONTINUOUS" is being used.

Therefore, the conjugated verb is ใŸใฎใ‚“ใงใ„ใพใ™ and means IS ASKING/IS REQUESTING.

In France we understand the English present tense in 3 ways, [She asks, she does ask, she is asking, the latter we say PRESENT PROGRESSIVE], which are included in our 1 way [Fr., elle demande], but in Japanese there are two ways of forming the present, the first includes the present and future, the second is the PRESENT CONTINUOUS. It is created by making the TE form and adding ใ„ใพใ™ in formal speech, such as here.

What does ใฟใŸใ„ mean here? Online the definition is "to be like" so what does this have to do with "wanting to see"?
