| To ask if someone can do something, like speak a language, say the language followed by- |
| ができますか。 (ga dekimasu ka.) |
| To answer affirmatively, say- |
| はい、できます。 (Hai, dekimasu.) |
| To answer negatively, say- |
| いいえ、できません。 (Iie, dekimasen.) |
| Listen to a few more examples. |
| ジャックさんは、中国語ができますか。 (Jakku-san wa, Chūgoku-go ga dekimasu ka?) |
| いいえ、できません。 (Iie, dekimasen.) |
| トムさんは、スペイン語ができますか。 (Tomu-san wa, Supein-go ga dekimasu ka?) |
