Hi everyone! I’m Alisha. |
Welcome to Conversational Phrases! |
We’ve found that the best way to learn a language is to speak it from day one! And the best way to start speaking is to learn phrases that you’ll use in real conversations. |
In this lesson, you’ll learn conversational phrases to comment on a joke. After watching this video, you’ll be able to compliment or criticize anyone on their sense of humor. |
Now, let’s take a look at some conversational phrases! |
Listen to the dialogue. |
すうがくのほんはどうしてかなしそう? もんだいがおおいからだよ。 (Sūgaku no hon wa dōshite kanashisō? Mondai ga ōi kara da yo.) |
アハハ、ほんとうにおかしいね! (Ahaha, hontō ni okashii ne!) |
Once more with the English translation. |
すうがくのほんはどうしてかなしそう? もんだいがおおいからだよ。 (Sūgaku no hon wa dōshite kanashisō? Mondai ga ōi kara da yo.) |
“Why is the math book sad? Because it has so many problems.” |
アハハ、ほんとうにおかしいね! (Ahaha, hontō ni okashii ne!) |
“Haha, you're so funny!” |
First of all, let’s listen to the joke again “Why is the math book sad? Because it has so many problems.” |
That's: |
すうがくのほんはどうしてかなしそう? もんだいがおおいからだよ。 (Sūgaku no hon wa dōshite kanashisō? Mondai ga ōi kara da yo.) |
Listen to it again: |
すうがくのほんはどうしてかなしそう? もんだいがおおいからだよ。, すうがくのほんはどうしてかなしそう? もんだいがおおいからだよ。 (Sūgaku no hon wa dōshite kanashisō? Mondai ga ōi kara da yo., Sūgaku no hon wa dōshite kanashisō? Mondai ga ōi kara da yo.) |
Now, how do you react to a joke? First, you’ll need to learn how to say “haha” . That’s アハハ, アハハ (ahaha, ahaha) |
Then, you’ll need to learn how to say “You're so [adjective].” The pattern is: |
ほんとうに [adjective] ね。 (Hontō ni [adjective] ne.) |
“You're so [adjective].” |
This Japanese sentence literally translates as “Truly [adjective], right?” But it means “You're so [adjective].”. |
For example: |
“Haha, you're so funny!” |
アハハ、ほんとうにおかしいね!, アハハ、ほんとうにおかしいね! (Ahaha, hontō ni okashii ne!, Ahaha, hontō ni okashii ne!) |
