Hi, everyone! Risa here! Welcome to Japanese Top Words. Today, we are going to do top 10 phrases tourists should never use. Never use, never ever.
1. 最低! (Saitē!) “That's disgusting!”
この国の人のテーブルマナーは最低! (Konokuni no hito no tēburu manā wa saitē!) “In this country, people's table manners are disgusting!”
2. 私の国の方がいい。(Watashi no kuni no hō ga ī.) “My country is better.”
絶対、私の国の方がいい。 (Zettai watashi no kuni no hō ga ī.) “My country is absolutely better.”
3. 家に帰った方がいい。 (Ie ni kaetta hō ga ī.) “I'd rather be back home.”
ここに居るより、家に帰った方がいい。 (Koko ni iru yori, ie ni kaetta hō ga ī.) “I'd rather be back home than stay here.”
That’s so boring!
4. だまれ! (Damare!) “Shut up!”
うるさい、だまれ! (Urusai, damare!) “Shut up!”
5. あなたの国の文化にあまり興味がない。 (Anata no kuni no bunka ni amari kyōmi ga nai.) “I'm not very interested in your culture.”
I’m sorry.
あなたの国の文化にあまり興味がないって言ったでしょ。 (Anata no kuni no bunka ni amari kyōmi ga naitte itta desho.) “I said I'm not very interested in your culture, didn't I?”
6. 知らない人と出会うのがあまり好きじゃない。 (Shiranai hito to deau no ga amari sukijanai.) “I don't like meeting new people.”
知らない人と出会うのがあんまり好きじゃない。だから行きたくない。(Shiranai hito to deau no ga anmari suki ja nai. Dakara ikitaku nai.) “I don't like meeting new people, so I don't want to go.”
7. マックで食べるだけにしよう。 (Makku de taberu dake ni shiyō.) “Let's just eat at McDonald's.”
どこのレストランもおいしくないから、マックで食べるだけにしよう。 (Doko no resutoran mo oishikunai kara, makku de taberu dake ni shiyō.) “Let's just eat at McDonald's, because there are no good restaurants.”
8. この味、ひどい。 (Kono aji, hidoi!) “This tastes awful.”
この料理の味、ひどい。 (Kono ryōri no aji, hidoi!) “This dish tastes awful.”
すみません、なんだですか、これは。 (Sumimasen, nandadesuka, korewa.) “What is this?”
9. 私はホテルで時間を潰すつもり。 (Watashi wa hoteru de jikan o tsubusu tsumori.) “I'm going to spend the day in the hotel.”
暑いから、私はホテルで時間を潰すつもり。 (Atsui kara, watashi wa hoteru de jikan o tsubusu tsumori.) “I'm going to spend the day in the hotel, because it's too hot.”
何、この東京の暑さ!?信じられない。ホテルで時間潰そ。 (Nani, kono Tōkyō no atsusa!? Shinijirarenai. Hoteru de jikan tsubuso.) “How could it be such hot in Tokyo!? I can’t believe it. I’m going to spend the time in the hotel.” 暑い、溶けちゃう。 (Atsui, tokechau.) “Too hot, so I’m melting.”
10. あなたたちは野蛮だ。 (Anatatachi wa yaban da.) “You people are uncivilized.”
そんなことするなんて、あなたたちは野蛮だ。 (Sonna koto suru nante, anatatachi wa yaban da.) “You people are uncivilized to do such a thing.”
