Hi, everyone! It’s Risa. Welcome to Japanese Top Words. Today’s theme is top 10 phrases to know when having a baby. 行きます!(Ikimasu!). Baby, yes, yes, yes. Yes, yes, yes.
1. 母乳で育てる(bonyū de sodateru) “to breastfeed”
母は三歳になるまで私を母乳で育てました。 (Haha wa sansai ni naru made watashi o bonyū de sodatemashita.) “My mom breastfed me up to an age of 3 years.”
2. おむつを替える (omutsu o kaeru) “to change a diaper”
I’m a baby…
おむつを替えてください。 (Omutsu o kaete kudasai.) “Please change a diaper.”

3. よだれかけをつける (yodarekake o tsukeru) “to put on a bib”
よだれかけをつけましたか。 (Yodarekake o tsukemashita ka?) “Did you put on a bib?”

4. 服を取り替える (fuku o torikaeru) “to change clothes”
何時に彼の服を取り替えましょうか? (Nanji ni kare no fuku o torikaemashō ka?) “What time shall I change his clothes?”

子守唄を歌ってください。 (Komoriuta o utatte kudasai.) “Please sing a lullaby.”

6. 昼寝をする (hirune o suru) “to take a nap”

7. ベビーフードを作る (bebīfūdo o tsukuru) “to make baby food”
はじめてベビーフードを作りました。 (Hajimete bebīfūdo o tsukurimashita.) “I made baby food for the first time.”
8. 授乳する (junyū suru) “to feed”
今、赤ちゃんに授乳させてもいいですか? (Ima, akachan ni junyū sasetemo īdesu ka?) “Can I feed my baby now?”
9. ベビーカーを押す (bebīkā o osu) “to push a stroller”
電車だ。すいません。 (Densha da. Suimasen.) “A train has come.”
ベビーカーを押してもらってもいいですか? (Bebīkā o shite moratte mo ii desu ka?) “Excuse me, could you push a stroller?”
や、もちろんいいですよ。 (Ya, mochiron ii desu yo.) “Yeah, of course.”
10. 本を読む (hon o yomu) “to read a book”
娘に本を読んであげました。 (Musume ni hon o yonde agemashita.) “I read a book to my daughter.”
昔々、あるところにタヌキがいました。 (Mukashi, mukashi, aru tokoro ni tanuki ga imashita.) “Long long ago, there was a raccoon dog.”
タヌキは人前で踊るのが大好きで、(Tanuki wa hitomae de odru no ga daisuki de,) “He really liked dancing in front of others,”
ポンポコリン、ポンポコリンといつも踊っていました。 (ponpokorin, ponpokorin to itsumo odotte imashita.) “and he always danced like pon-poko-rin.”
