Hello everyone,

The numbers in Japanese aren’t so bad once you get the patterns down. How did you like this video?

Konbanwa,

Is it okay to say “shihyaku” and “shichihyaku” instead of “yonhyaku” and “nanahyaku”?
I’m also wondering the same for the thousands (and so on), if it’s acceptable to say “shisen” instead of “yonsen”, etc.

Arigato gozaimasu,
Maddie

I have been wanting to learn Japanese for a long time and now I finally can

Charlotte san,
Konnichiwa.
100, 200, 400, 500, 700 and 900 take ‘hyaku’, 300 takes ‘byaku’, and 600 and 800 take ‘ppyaku.’
Therefore key numbers are 3, 6 and 8.
The reason why you have to change the sound is the pronunciations of 3, 6 and 8.

Konnichiwa,
Is there any reason ‘Hyaku’ changing to ‘Byaku’ and ‘Ppyaku’ in some numbers? Or is it just a random rule?
