あけましておめでとうございます、みなさん! Happy New Year everyone! We heard about some Japanese customs for New Year’s Day from Sakuraさん、Peterさん、 and Naomiさん. How about you? Will you observe any Japanese customs for New Year’s Day? What about customs from your own country?

Happy New Year from my wife and I here for our second year in Tokyo. Today was a beautiful day. Tokyo is so empty! I guess many people go home to the country side.

We went to the Taito area where there are many temples. My wife got a beautiful picture and we visited many of the temples where the monks would place their stamp and sign the picture.

We will frame this in our apartment. The only tough part today was finding a place to eat! Usually this is never a problem in Tokyo. But the gods were smiling on us as we really wanted a big bowl of noodles and we succeeded.

Happy New Year to everyone !!!! Today’s plan is spending the day with my family, sending everyone happy new year SMS , writing happy new year messages on mixi and facebook, and enjoying the great, great sunshine out there, and the first beautiful day of the year walking on the beach. I hope every one has a great time today !

あけましておめでとございます!I love today’s intro music. どもありがとうございます!I have an LP of Japanese traditional music playing on my stereo now. Like Jonas-san, I plan to study Japanese every day. The University of Memphis added a Japanese bachelor’s degree program this year, and I will be applying for next fall.

おめでとうございます!

I heard people in Tokyo like to go to 増上寺 (Zojoji) for the New Year. I wish I was there!

BTW, the lessons on iTunes hasn’t been updated since 12/24. Is it because of the holidays?

Looking forward to another great year together.

Tokyo is officially “kara” (empty). We ventured into Shinjuku today, and while there we’re people there, it was a fraction of the normal traffic.

We also went to Bic Camera (a major electronics retailer), and they had a $750 USD 福袋 (fukubukuro - sealed lucky bag). These bags contain contents well above the price you pay, but of course, you don’t know what you get. The one for $750 contained a laptop among other things. Yep, a laptop! I was pretty impressed, and I was very tempted to buy to say the least. In the end, I had to settle for an upgrade to my existing computer.

Here is a Culture Class on Fukubukuro:

Wow, 2006….I’m a little scared to hit play….well, here goes!

Wishing you a happy and healthy New Year from Tokyo! :dogeza:

Happy New Year Everyone!

I joined your Premium program late december ‘08, hopped in from KoreanClass101. JapanesePod101 is amazing, simply amazing, so practical, fascinating and detailed, WOW! so much to explore and learn, I could go on and on but for now I suffice to say I was specially impressed by the informal dialog parts in the Beginner S1 series, you see I have been learning Japanese on my own on and off since December ‘06 and I was always baffled by what I heard in the movie dialogs in comparison to what I heard on the course tapes unti I fiured out some stuff on my own, but the you guys explain all the forma and infornal stuff is just so fantastic!! I hope 2009 will be a fantastic year for all of us!!
