Learn Japanese with JapanesePod101.com! In case you missed them, Yasu and Momo are back! And, they’re here to teach you phrases like “speaking of which,” “that reminds me” and “that’s not good” using the Okayama dialect. Think of how many times you say, “Speaking of which…” when a conversation shifts, and you’ll see why this lesson is so important. This Japanese culture class presents some of the most commonly used words and phrases in the Okayama dialect. As a bonus, you’ll learn “hot,” “let’s eat,” “too much,” “overwhelming” and much more. As always, the English translations are accompanied by both the standard Japanese and Okayama forms, so you can use both with confidence.

Why in the world would we want to learn Okayama dialect at this stage of our learning??
It’s great to have one lesson where several dialects are introduced — sure! But a whole series on Okayama-ben gives me a headache.

This use of えらい to mean “tired” got us in trouble in Japanese class in school. 私はえらいです did not go over well.
