Learn Japanese with JapanesePod101.com! Have you heard the stories about the unbelievable size of apartments in Japan? In this Japanese lesson, we’re going to find out if Japanese apartments are really as small as rumor leads many to believe. In addition, we’ll learn what’s in a typical Japanese apartment and how to talk about the location of things in Japanese. We’ll also look at Japanese numbers.

The Japanese grammar we’ll look at is Japanese demonstratives, often called ko-, so-, a-, do- words.

Mina-san, what’s the smallest place you’ve lived in?

avatar Goddess Carlie says:

In Australia “Toilet” means the room as well and the toilet and bathroom are two separate rooms. So, in English “toilet” can also mean the room.

the link to the video vocab doesn’t appear to be working.:???:

カレッジのアパート. とてもちいさい. I could see in every room from the couch. でも、とてもべんりですよ。

So do Japanese use まる like we use “O” for things like course numbers? Thinking about the introduction to the show - いちまるいち (one - o- one). ぜろ or れい isn’t used. Or was the one-o-one Englitized for the show intro?

 Finally got to listen to the lesson - it answered my question. I’ll be quiet now.

I really enjoy this Japanese lesson. Please write me a e-mail. I want to make a friend.

A friend of mine used to leave in a 7,5 square meter apartment on the 8th (and last) floor of a 19th century building in a very nice neighbourhood of Paris. トイレ, as it was, was not in the apartment, but at the end of the 8th floor corridor (however, she was the only one living there).
The apartment was right under the roof, and so had a slanted ceiling…. in her “bedroom”, at the highest point, the ceiling was 1,20 m above the floor… which means she couldn’t stand up in her own room !

There are a lot of rooms like that in old buildings, and it’s quite common for students to get a first apartment just like the one this friend used to live in…

Hi!!

It seems the PDF for Kanji is not available both in the site and the iTunes.

Has anyone got it?

avatar Bea says:

Minna-san!

I am also experiencing problems with the Kanji close-up and the Video vocab. Hopefully, (as always! I have blind faith in the staff at Japanesepod101), it will be solved soon!

Arigatou gozaimasu! :dogeza:

avatar João Paulo says:

Arigatou gozaimasu… the problem was fixed!

Thank you JPOD crew!!!

avatar AD++ says:

The URL to the video vocab file in the premium feed still has problems.

avatar Mayumi says:

Mina-sama,

The Kanji PDF has been fixed. But, please wait for a moment until the video vocab is ready. Thank you for your patience. :dogeza:
