Learn Real Japanese at JapanesePod101.com! In today’s conversation we’re going to learn how to make reservations at a ryokan, or a Japanese style inn. Our characters are trying to plan a family trip to Shimoda which is located at the southernmost part of the Izu Peninsula. Our grammar point is using sekkaku shita no ni to express disappointment after going through a lot of effort to do something. After listening, stop by JapanesePod101.com and be sure to leave us a post!

Mina-san, have you ever been to Shimoda? It’s a beautiful place.
LOL
シングルです、残念ながら~! I just about spit out my drink when I heard the foreigner girl said that!
I have a feeling this is going to be a good series. Every time I go to a ryokan, the staff uses so much keigo that I can’t really understand them. If they used normal polite Japanese, I’d be fine.
I intend to pour over this PDF for the next time I go to a Japanese inn! Thanks guys!
Wasn’t the wife’s voice the same of that woman who broke in Kobayashi-san’s house in “Security Work” series???
怖いね!
I wonder what she’s up to this time!!!
I just booked 2 nites of Ryokan stay at Shimoda!! But I did it thru email!
When I first stayed at a Ryokan I was shocked to find out I’d be sleeping on the floor. But as it turned out it was really comfortable! I slept really well.
Greetings, it has been a long time, but I hope to put me a day!
Keep going with that amazing work
This was a nice lesson and unusually not so difficult for an upper intermediate level!
Is this going to be a series about staying in a Ryokan? It’s something I’m planning to do myself when I visit Japan this summer so lessons on the kind of etiquette and polite language used/expected would be excellent.
Thanks!
Yeah!! A few series about staying in a Ryokan will be really helpful!!
Actually, I will also be staying at a 民宿 for a few nights, i am not sure if they speak english!!
