September might as well be called “National Otaku Month,” all our recent Beginner Season 2 episodes have been dealing with various aspects of ヲタク culture. And we definitely didn’t want to neglect the advanced listeners! So we thought we’d share our special take on the deplorable phenomenon of ヲタク狩り for the Intermediate series! Hope you enjoyed it!

JP101 crew/listeners!
Today’s lesson was great since I’m a Otaku too. I also remember in my early young ages (Puberty In Mexico City) I took some Manga that wasn’t mine and the owner never notice but some other otuku’s rubber me has welll too so it was fair.
I also would like to go to Akihabara Anime/Manga when I go to Japan in the near future.

Death Wish: オタク版? (otaku edition)
Sunday at 9:55 pm
I know that OTAKU should be written as お宅 or in katakana オタク, but sometimes I’ve found it written as ヲタク or just ヲタ as in 電車男
(DenshaOtoko). Does anyone know why?
Sunday at 11:04 pm
ヲタク is the katakana version of をたく, a spelling that is mentioned (in Japanese) in the podcast. I guess ヲタ is an abbreviation of that. I”m not sure about the last one!

Yes.

Well, I thought it was, but wikipedia says different:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wota
However, ヲタク is simply another spelling of オタク or お宅.
