Mina-san, have you met a sales clerk like this before?
Mina-san!
You need to listen to this one just for the shop assistant
Happy Wednesday!
The shop clerk is soooooooo funny!
And changing clothes music is really funny too!
Quite a few store clerks in Japan tend to be a bit aggressive. Even if you just want to have a cursory look at jewelry or clothing items just to see what they have in department stores, you are almost assured to get a shop clerk right in your face recommending something or asking (at times pressuring)you to try something on. A good expression to learn is :見てるだけです。 Mitteru dake desu. This means…”Just looking, thanks” Comes in very handy here. But even that sometimes doesn’t work. I guess they under an insurmountable amount of pressure to sell.
also, i think they are under a lot of pressure to make sure people don’t steal things.
it’s an expensive country where brand image is really important, so i think a lot of the ‘in your face’ selling is also partly loss prevention strategy. lol.
but in this story, this guy is on…
… SALES STEROIDS!!!

Yeah I definitely experienced this in Japan.
I don’t really like aggressive sales people especially when I don’t understand what they are saying and what they are handing me is really expensive! EeK! is 試着する ok for everything?
ぱんつ、ぱんず — they both sound the same to me!!! I guess I won’t be buying trousers anytime soon in a Japanese-speaking store without embarrassing myself.
Good lesson, I was meaning to get around to learning about getting dressed. The verb for headgear wasn’t covered though; it’s kakeru isn’t it?
I’m not a fan of interfering shop assistants, but the most I usually get asked is ‘are you alright?’, to which I bust out the trusty ‘just looking, thanks’.
Speaking of clothes, my friend had a Japanese fashion magazine, which was dedicated mostly to lolita goth stuff. Some of the girls look cute in the frilly dresses, but you’d look ridiculous leaving the house in that garb. How did this come about, and how popular is it? It seems to be simply a fashion trend rather than a short-sighted, paradoxical “ideology” like that of western goffz.

素晴らしい lesson!
I’m not into fashion and I don’t like BUT it’s a necessary so it was very interest to learn how to wear clothes in Japanese.
I’m like the students on school, I still wear my winter clothes and I change it to summer clothes until June 2 that is my birthday so I’ll be 23 and I need a new look too.

Javizy, the lolita goth girls, the little bo peep girls, etc, they go out in public like that. it’s just a fashion for them.
however, i have to say, i think the old women with purple hair are stranger than them.
as for headgear, there are also かかる and かぶる, depending on what you’re wearing. but those are coming up soon.
this is a 3-parter! ![]()

Looks like there are a few techical bugs with this lesson.
In Juice podcast feeder …
There was a new download for a premium audio ( 2 of them, actually ) One download crashed, and the other one was just called “premium_audio.mp3″. This was the same as the orginal lesson - same size, same content.
In the Learning forum …
The audio, premium audio, and basic audio appear to be the same.
The premium notes are the same as the standard lesson notes.
If you click the link to download the Basic audio, you get an “unknown page” error ..
They may be some more bugs … happy hunting !!
Shiroi Nekoさん、
thanks for pointing this out! ![]()
we’ll look into it ASAP
hope it’s not causing too much trouble in the meantime!!
申し訳ございません!
