Ushijima-san,
I really enjoyed that “hahahahaha” laughter

Great lesson! I learned a lot from this! Thanks for the useful phrases! Megumi-san is a wonderful English speaker!
But, what is happening!
I guess I don’t accept change very well
I miss Yoshi-san!
I don’t want Sakura-san to leave! I love her voice.
Peter-san, you’re not leaving?
Your voice doing the translations is so great!! Come on!!
Are you going to come out and tell us what is happening? Or, are you using the “indirect” Japanese style?
Wednesday at 3:47 am
Excuse me, but I missed the line-by-line audio in the Learning Center today.
Will you add it later?
Wednesday at 8:00 am
Ah the -tara conditional. Lovely. It would be nice to have it contrasted and compared with the -ba conditional ending. I think -ba more implies that the second clause is directly dependent on the first, while there may not be such a direct consequential relationship implied with -tara. It would be good to have more guidance on these differences though. onegaishimasu.
It does sound like Sakura-san’s moving on. I hope it’s onto something good.
Wednesday at 8:00 am
I too am missing Yoshi-san, and would like to know if there’s any changes for Peter-san.
Wednesday at 8:46 am
Liz-san,
Yoshi is still around here somewhere. In fact, I saw him just yesterday! Also, I don’t think Sakura is leaving… I think Peter was referring to the fact that she could do a lesson without him… girl power
But don’t worry, Peter isn’t leaving either! There’s no conspiracy going on - the team is just growing (it’s needed some healthy growth for a long time!), so there is a lot more variety! As for the line-by-line audio, apologies - it should be working now
Alan-san,
The to conditional is the one that expresses the most direct relationship… if X then Y will naturally happen. The ba and tara conditionals are both fairly general, although I believe the ba conditional focuses more on the condition, while the tara conditional focuses more on the result.

Nathanさん、
Thanks for the clarification. I knew I was getting confused. There’s so many ways of saying ‘if’

Excellent lesson today. Very well done.
I was particularly interested in the title, ” Macho Man”. Macho I believe is derived from Spanish and maybe Latin. Is there an equivilent term in Japanese ?

Mina-san.
Genki desu ka?
I was just scared like Liz-san. I thought Natsuko-san was leaving. And that was no good news. Thanks to Nathan-san who cleared things up.
Ushijima-san, a huge (or like Peter would say: a yuge) YOUKOSO for you!!!!
Mata!
Wednesday at 9:18 pm
Ushijima-san,
Great work!
Welcome!
About other issues I agree to with Liz-san, Barry-san and Sindy-san
Sure what nothing is happend?
Wednesday at 10:16 pm
I also think it’s time to give us some informations, since Yoshi and Chigusa who were the heart of 2006 lessons suddenly disappeared. And now Peter?
Perhaps it’s a choice from the shachou to have more serious lessons, but I think what appealed most of the western subscribers was that wind of madness brought by the 2006 team.
We don’t need academical lessons with professionnal actors, but a bunch of friends teaching us japanese so good that it seems an easy langage. We already had boring academical lessons at home, and we don’t need no more.
Long life to the Peter team! With Peter, Yoshi, Chigusa, Takase…
Wednesday at 10:34 pm
Alain-san,
“The wind of madness!” YES!! YES!! YES!!
Thursday at 12:48 am
I hope the silly stays too, but I bet it will. Change is scary, but I bet the new crew will shake out and settle in great.
Please keep the personality!
(Also was the sound mix more hissy today than usual? Especially the ’s’-es? Eeep!)
Thursday at 5:48 am
I made a mistake in my previous post… Peter was not talking about Natsuko, but about Sakura.
Anyway, we need everybody… Peter-san, Chigusa-san, Yoshi-san, Take-san, Sakura-san, Natsuko-san… The new crew is welcome, but we want everybody to stay!!!

I’m sorry if this post comes through twice. For some reason, the form doesn’t seem to like me today…
A little bit on the park mentioned in today’s podcast:
「山下公園」 is located along the waterfront in Yokohama (historically, Edo’s port city) http://www.natsuzora.com/may/park/yamashita.html . What does this site say about the park’s importance to Yokohama? Something along the lines of, “As Yamashita Koen is the core of Yokohama’s sightseeing, you could say that it’s Yokohama’s ‘face’.” The rest of the page contains text on the park’s history and some photos of its present state. As you can see, as with many “parks” in Japan, there’s actually a good deal of concrete.
This site http://www.yamashitapark.net/map/index.html contains a map that gives you a sense of the park’s waterfront position. Click on the “Park” link at the bottom to see a detailed diagram of the park’s structures. One click will bring up a list of four links. Even if you can’t read kanji, one phrase that’s very useful to be able to recognize visually when you travel to Japan is 「案内マップ」, which means guidemap. So if you click on the first link, the map will expand, and you should be able to click on various spots to see more detailed information about the park’s various sights. Another useful phrase to recognize is 「交通のご案内」–or variations on the theme. This means, “access guide.” From the “Park” menu, click on this link to see the various ways you can get to the park. For every guy looking to impress his date, knowing the correct station and exit is a must! For ex ample, if you go to the JR 石川町 station (駅), which exit (口) do you want to take? How about the 関内 station?

The little sister used お兄さん, rather than justあに. Don’t you use the latter to refer to your own brothers or sisters? Or was she just being sarcastic?
Friday at 10:22 pm
Hugoさん,
At the risk of being wrong here, let me try.
お兄さんwas used because she was addressing the older brother directly. If she had been talking to a third person, then she would use あに.
John
Saturday at 4:11 pm
Apparently (I had to look this up), when one addresses a younger sibling, the sibling is addressed as ____-くん or ____-ちゃん. When one addresses an older sibling, he/she is addressed formally, namely お兄さんor お姉さん. 違ったら、正してください!(Or if anything I write here is wrong!)

I love how Japanese is full of tongue-twisters. Everyone say:
