Learn Japanese with JapanesePod101.com! As we approach setsubun, or the end of winter and the beginning of spring, one of the first things that comes to mind is oni. Today we bring you a mukashi banashi about just that - an oni who happened to love children. Of course, children don’t generally love monsters, so you’ll have to tune in to see how he won their hearts over, and ended up with a big empty spot in his own. After listening, stop by JapanesePod101.com and be sure to leave us a post!

Mina-san, we hope you were also moved by this touching story!
The English female voice was that of Megumi Sotherden, more to come on her! The male speaker was played by Marky Star.
Yoroshiku onegai shimasu.
JapanesePod101の皆さん、こんにちは!
Really nice, touching-ish story indeed. However with Sakura-san’s touching laughter in the background, I couldn’t really cry at all!
It’s nice to hear the new voices of Megumi Sotherden and Marky Star, and I really like Megumi Sotherden’s voice, I could probably just close my eyes and listen to her all day along.
While closing my eyes, a funny picture showed up in my mind: JapanesPod101’s crew is making a live action drama of today’s story - guys as monsters and girls as children.
Can we actually have this live action? I mean, Yushi-san had a good, iie, brilliant perforance last Halloween, right? Surely doing some exercises and scaring away children wouldn’t be that hard.
Just imagining the scene has already made my day .^__^
Yoroshiku onegaishimasu.
Really good, is very touching in deed!
I agree with Nanaka-san, imagining the process of Jpod crew making the story is to much funny
Any video about the backstage of making the show?
Truly this make my day better!
よろしく おねがいします!
JP101 crew and listeners!
I agree with Nanaka-san and Hugo-san! Great Job and story too. ![]()
This was much better than the other two truly!
Its not to cry ehh Sakura-san
![]()
Its a
story and it makes you analize how the blue monster prefer children (humans) instead their own kind!
The red monster really was a true friend!
![]()
Right now on planet earth friends like him are little and strange to find so when you find a true one conserve him/her and tell him/her that they are special and the best friends in the world!

Marky Star almost sounds like Nathan-san from Texas. Megumi has a wonderful voice. Very Internet/Podcast friendly.
Well done gang.

ミシェルさん、毎度ありがとうございます!今回も素晴らしいリンクを見つけました!
For everyone interested, the first link provides an animated version of the red monster that cried. The second is about people’s opinions of the story and the last is a picture of a octopus ball/pancake joint called Red Monster.
Thanks again Michelle-san!
i had so much fun in the studio with megumi and sakura and peter! sakura was so touched by the story. we really had to stop recording because she was crying.
ほら、ほら、もう泣かないで。
