Eric: Must-Know Japanese Social Media Phrases Season 1. Lesson 13 - A Pregnancy Announcement.
Eric: Hi everyone, I'm Eric.
Risa: And I'm Risa.
Eric: In this lesson, you'll learn how to post and leave comments in Japanese about having a baby. 守 (Mamoru) finds out he and his wife are going to have a baby, posts an image of it, and leaves this comment:
Risa: 来年パパになります。早く会いたいな。 (Rainen papa ni narimasu. Hayaku aitai na.)
Eric: Meaning - "I'll be a dad next year. Wanna see the baby sooner." Listen to a reading of the post and the comments that follow.

POST
Eric: Listen again to 守 (Mamoru)'s post.
Risa: 来年パパになります。早く会いたいな。 (Rainen papa ni narimasu. Hayaku aitai na.)
Eric: "I'll be a dad next year. Wanna see the baby sooner."
Risa: (SLOW) 来年パパになります。早く会いたいな。 (Rainen papa ni narimasu. Hayaku aitai na.) (Regular) 来年パパになります。早く会いたいな。 (Rainen papa ni narimasu. Hayaku aitai na.)
Eric: Let's break this down. First is an expression meaning "I'll be a dad next year..."
Risa: 来年パパになります。 (Rainen papa ni narimasu.)
Eric: This is a common, simple line to say when you just find out you're becoming a father and want to let the world know. It's only used before you have your first child. Listen again- "I'll be a dad next year." is...
Risa: (SLOW) 来年パパになります。 (Rainen papa ni narimasu.) (REGULAR) 来年パパになります。 (Rainen papa ni narimasu.)
Eric: Then comes the phrase - "I want to see the baby sooner..."
Risa: 早く会いたいな。 (Hayaku aitai na.)
Eric: In Japanese, we don't have an exact translation for "I miss you" or "Can't wait" that sound very natural. Instead, we say "I want to see (you) sooner" in Japanese. If you're in a long-distance relationship with a Japanese partner, you can also use this expression as a way to say you miss him or her. Listen again- "I want to see him sooner." is...
Risa: (SLOW) 早く会いたいな。 (Hayaku aitai na.) (REGULAR) 早く会いたいな。 (Hayaku aitai na.)
Eric: All together, "I'll be be a dad next year. Wanna see the baby sooner."
Risa: 来年パパになります。早く会いたいな。 (Rainen papa ni narimasu. Hayaku aitai na.)
