Hi everyone. Welcome to kanji time. Today, let’s review N4 kanji. 参りましょう。(Mairimashō.) Oh, if you want to do the quiz first, please go to these times.
This kanji means separate, branch off, another, extra. on-reading for this kanji is ベツ (betsu) as in 特別 (tokubetsu) meaning special and the kun-reading for this kanji is わか (waka) as in 別れる (wakareru) meaning to separate.
This kanji means power, strong, strain, exert. The on-reading for this kanji is リョク、リキ (ryoku, riki) as in 体力 (tairyoku) meaning physical strength. I am going to climb the Mount Fuji. 体力がいるなぁ。(Tairyoku ga iru nā.) And the kun-reading for this kanji is ちから、りき (chikara, riki) as in 力 (chikara) meaning power.
This kanji means exertion, diligence, industrious. The on-reading is ベン (ben) as in 勉強 (benkyō) meaning study or learn. 勉強。勉強しよう。勉強。(Benkyō. Benkyō shiyō. Benkyō.) and the kun-reading is つと (tsuto) as in お勉め品 (o-tsutomehin) meaning article offered at the bargain place. いらっしゃいませ、皆さーん。お弁当がお勉め品になっております。ぜひご覧ください。(Irasshaimase, mina-sān. O-bentō ga o-tsutomehin ni natte orimasu. Zehi goran kudasai.)
This kanji means move, motion, change, shift, shake. The on-reading is ドウ (dō) as in 自動車 (jidōsha) meaning car or automobile. And the kun-reading is うご (ugo) as in 動く (ugoku) meaning to move.
This kanji means ward or counter for wards. 渋谷区。新宿区。足立区。墨田区。区。(Shibuya-ku. Shinjuku-ku. Adachi-ku. Sumida-ku. Ku.) The on-reading is ク (ku) as in 区役所 (kuyakusho) meaning ward office or 学区 (gakku) meaning school district.
