admiring an object turns into greed in a persons home?

Postby CrazySwayzee » August 29th, 2006 1:26 am

I've heard that admiring something in a persons home in Japan means that you want to take that object home with you.

is this true? and is there a way of admiring without wanting to take it home? :D

This is mostly true for older people. In 3 years living there I never met a person under 50 who had that kind of attitude.

Don't forget this happens in the West as well.

I'm thinking about Seinfeld here.

"You like the pen? Take it! Take the pen!"

yea that tends to happen in every culture, eh?

but I really meant more like just a casual comment, not something that's obviously meaning that you want it. almost like your admiring that persons taste.

hmm, old people? old people in japan seem like they're very strict on manners and decency and from what i've heard, a little grumpy about respect.

I hope this is just a stereotype and not a big thing?

thanks for the replies :D
