Fireflies

Postby MikeCassidy » June 27th, 2006 3:06 pm

I saw my first firefly Sunday. I remember my Japanese teacher telling me that Japan imported fireflies to release in June. Does that still go on??

Firefly viewing is a pretty popular thing to do during firefly season. (June? July?)

I've not heard that they import them, but I do know that a lot of fireflies have disappeared because of urbanization and pollution (especially in the 50s).

It wouldn't surprise me if they imported them. They supposedly import white sand from Australia to cover the beaches of Shirahama.
