Postby sesamesmommy4239 » February 1st, 2014 7:55 am

My son and I listen to the lower intermediate together. He is bilingual so he can understand the English and Japanese. He enjoys fun conversations, so I wish there was a child-friendly track that was aimed mainly for children's enjoyment. Silly conversations and so forth.
(He made two comments on the message boards, but doesn't want me to say they are actually from him. He enjoyed that.)

What a nice idea. :)

There are some Mukashi Banashi stories in the intermediate section.

sesamesmommy4239-san, Andy-san,
kon'nichiwa :D
Thank you for the suggestions! Also thank you, Andy-san, for a help :kokoro:
Mukashi banashi would be the very good recommendation indeed!

I'll share this thread with my team and discuss about it for the future lessons.

What kind of "child-friendly" do you specifically wish for?
When we say "child", which range of age are we talking about?

He likes video games and insects (nature.) But the conversations don't have to be limited to that. He likes any funny story. He really like the Koi mystery, but was disappointed that we did not discover the culprit.

I personally will listen to the tracks with both English and Japanese in them with him. The advanced are only Japanese so I do those when he is at school.

Thank you! :)

Oh, and my son just turned eleven.

I don't know the age ranges because I don't know if other people are interested in this idea. I love the idea of むかしばなし (Japanese folk tales). I haven't looked around much because I was directed to lower intermediate 4 and naturally started there. I would personally like to see Aesop tales and Greek myths and so on. (Not necessarilly related to Japanese culture.)

sesamesmommy4239-san,
Thank you for the further information!

Personally, I think language education for children under the age of 12 or so should be
classified more precisely than other age ranges due to their interests and typical
schoo/life events. On JapanesePod101.com, we don't have course for children, but
those stories (mukashibanashi) should be greatly appreciated by early teenagers.

We're trying to have "interesting or funny" dialogues in any levels, including the common or typical
conversations we have in actual life. Having a series for children might not be easy, considering the
practical aspects, but it's also true that there are many teenagers who listen and learn
Japanese on JapanesePod101.com
I'll speak to my team about this as a new idea. Thank you very much for your suggestions again :D
