I like 12012, they're a bit darker than the average jrock band and they sound great.

If you want something loud, you could check out Maximum The Hormone. If anyone watches Death Note, they do the second OP and ED. Their sound has quite a range, from a ska feel to something that sounds like System of a Down in Japanese.

Mokey Majik

Postby dmr214 » March 25th, 2007 10:04 am

You should check out Mokey Majik (I think it is spelled Majik), but, they are a bunch of Americans living in Japan who speak very very very good Japanese and they have become super popular. They make songs with lots of artists and they are all good. It's not hard rock but I think it's very good.

YOu can get them on Itunes and I know they have a video on Youtube for their flagship song "Around the World."

Check it out.

You might like some of the newer stuff by Boom Boom Satellites as they have been steadily getting more and more rock-esque as the years have pasesed... I am not a huge fan of it personally, but some of their older electro/breaks style tracks & albums are fantastic :D

More bands

Postby tondekeman » October 30th, 2007 3:39 pm

Here are some of the bands I personally like and feel safe recommending:

1. Asian Kung fu generation - very popular in Japan I hear
2. Bump of chicken - Funny name, good songs
3. Pick 2 hand - I've only heard one album of theirs 2 years ago, I'm not sure if they're still around.
4. Remioromen - I don't like them as much as the 3 above, but worth checking out.

Other bands that aren't exactly rock bands worth mentioning include:

1. Chaba - Creative use of Japanese koto and violin.
2. Susumu Hirasawa - songs have this, I dunno, ephemeral feel.

If you try, you may luckily stumble upon some of their songs or videos.
