Blu-Ray Proliferation

Postby SmilingRob » December 1st, 2008 7:49 pm

How common is it for a Japanese family to have a Blu-Ray player? There's a movie that I'd like to give as a gift, but I don't want to burden them with buying new equipment.

Thanks,

Sorry for the late response. Bluray appears to be doing well in Japan. This fits with what I've seen here. There is far more advertisement for Bluray here than I would've thought.

don't know anyone that owns one - but then even after 8 years I can count the number of Japanese friends houses I've been to on about one hand...

I've been in Japan for a little over two weeks now, and I've been inside about 10 houses. None of them have Blu-Ray, so at this point, the first person's house I go to that has Blu-Ray gets a sweet movie!

I hope you got a Bluray movie that can be played in region A :)

Yep! Fortunately, unlike DVD, Japan and the US are in the same region!
