Do American iPod Touchs work on Japanese wireless networks?

Postby JeanOfmArc » May 6th, 2009 7:01 pm

Just wondering if I buy an iPod Touch here in America if it will work fine on the wireless networks while in Japan. Does anyone know?

As far as I'm aware, the technologies for wi-fi are the same (this is not true for cellular service!). Though I cannot speak specifically for iPod touch, I was able to use my laptop computer's wireless card without any difficulty on Japanese networks. Frankly, I'd be extremely surprised if you encountered any problems.

I've also been using my American Macintosh on Japanese wi-fi systems. I did buy an AirMac Extreme dual band router, and saw that Japan has different channels for their wi-fi.

I think as far as the wireless is concerned is which band you'll be using. Whether it be b/g/n.
