Going to Chubu

Postby Belton » March 8th, 2007 5:14 pm

My turn to ask for advice.

I'm going to Chubu over Easter.
(I've already been to Kinki in previous years.)

Does anyone have any recommendations?

I'm going to top and tail the trip in Nagoya. And if my minshuku reservation comes through I'll be in Takayama for the Spring matsuri.
I'm thinking about the weeks in between now. (You can see I planned this a lot before I bought my plane ticket!)

I think I want to try to go to Kanagawa on the West coast.
Has anyone travelled via Nagoya?

Shirakawago

Shirakawago is a goodplace to see. Also Gokayama.
It's a one day tour from Takayama but buses are scarce, it's better to rent a car at Eki rentacar (Takayama station).

KanaZawa is nice, worth the travel. Not destroyed in WW2, you can see samurai or geisha's districts and one of the best 3 japanese gardens (I think it's the first).

Echizen kaigan is very quiet and pretty.

Not on the tourist guides, I also like forgotten Himi, the town of the "Akai Bashi" Imamura's movie (you can see the bridge and the house of the movie). Sleepy town with an air of old Asia, bicyclerepair and fan stores on the main street like in Thailand or Indonesia, beaches and snowy mountains across the sea.
