Struggling to find what Season/level I should do next on JapanesePod?

Postby weibelem_509324 » December 17th, 2016 3:26 pm

Hi guys! I've been on Japanese pod 101 for several months and i'm struggling to figure out what season/level I should do next. I started with Absolute Beginner Season 1 and than moved on to Beginner 1 but I found that halfway through Beginner 1 I was starting to get lost (I was able to get to lesson 50 just fine). I went back and did Newbie Season 1 and figured that I should do Newbie Season 2,3,4,5 before trying Beginner again but now that I'm on Newbie Season 2 I find it too easy (covering a lot of the same topics as season 1).

I'm sort of at a lost of what I should be doing. Any recommendations? Should I keep going through Newbie 2? Go back and continue Beginner 1? Try a different level?

Any advice would be appreciated! :kokoro:

What did you do when you first started on Japanesepod?

Hi!

I'm sorry you haven't had a reply yet since I'd probably need the same kind of assistance in the future.
I've been studying Japanese on and off for 12 years now, but mostly "off" Since it always has been studying on my own, reading online or using a few books, I found it difficult to stay motivated when other things kept me busy as well. So I've restarted time and time again, but lately I really feel like taking a proper shot at it. This has lead to me being above "absolute beginner", and maybe somewhere in the middle of "beginner". But I don't want to jump into something halfway! So I'm going through the easy lessons even though it's all repetition. Repetition is more useful than you think, often.

Now, what am I doing? I'm following the "My Pathway" that was suggested when I registered to the site. There I follow a "learning path" called "Mastering Japanese: Level 1" (There's no Level 2 yet... I hope it's coming). You can find it here: https://www.japanesepod101.com/learning-paths/mastering-level-1-japanese/

This is a course that picks out lessons here and there from different seasons and levels, both audio and video. Sometimes having you watch episode 50 of season 3, followed by episode 3 from season 1, and back to episode 49 of season 3... I want to believe that it's done on purpose to make the learning the most effective.

If you start that one now though, you'll be repeating a lot (again) but you can just skip the parts that you feel are too easy, and review the parts that you know well but not perfectly :)

Good Luck!

Hi

Thank you for contacting us about this.

Have you already studied the alphabet and how to read and write Japanese? This is an important step to be taken: https://www.japanesepod101.com/index.php?cat=112

Pronunciation is also very important. Therefore, please check out our Ultimate Japanese Pronunciation Guide: https://www.japanesepod101.com/index.php?cat=80

Then you can resume the main series. After finishing the Absolute Beginner series, the next step would be the Beginner series, then the Upper Beginner, the Lower Intermediate, Intermediate, and finally the Upper Intermediate series. Each lesson of these series contains a dialogue and focuses on grammar, vocabulary, vocabulary usage, sample sentences and cultural notes.

In between these series, you can of course listen or watch other series too, depending on what appeals to you and your needs. However, the core grammar is found on the aforementioned series.

Should you need extra help with grammar, check out our grammar banks:
https://www.JapanesePod101.com/Japanese-grammar/

As for enriching your vocabulary, you can check out the vocabulary lists:
https://www.JapanesePod101.com/Japanese-vocabulary-lists/
We're constantly adding new content. Check out the other options under the menu ""Vocabulary"" as well.

I hope this is helpful. If you have any more questions about the website or Japanese, don't hesitate to contact us again.

Wishing you all the best!
