2009 July 5 JLPT in Japan

Postby nsixbm » December 12th, 2008 1:31 am

The 2008 JLPT is soooo last-week news.

Does anyone have information on registration for the summer JLPT 1 & 2 in Japan?
I am assuming one picks up the registration form at the bookstore as before, but haven't seen mention of dates.

Thanks
Brian

July??!

I thought the JLPT was always held once a year, in December?

Didn't somebody says something about the JLPT levels being revised in the near future? Hopefully they can at least make it live up to its name. No speaking or writing questions and 1000 kanji is about as proficient at Japanese as my left a**cheek.

According to http://www.jlpt.jp/e/index.html, JLPT will be revised from 2009.
(Japanese version : http://www.jees.or.jp/jlpt/pdf/20080525 ... 1_0718.pdf)

Summary
The Japanese-Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) has become a large scale event, attracted some 524,000 examinees in 2007. During this time, there have beenmany requests for revision and a variety of issues were pointed out.
The work of revising the test began in 2004.

A new and revised test pattern, originally scheduled to be implemented from December 2009, has been postponed until 2010.

The tests will be offered twice a year in Japan, China, Korea, and Taiwan: July and December becasue these regions have strong demand to do it. This will be effected in 2009. The July test will be offered for levels 1 and 2 only (or N1 and N2 from December 2010).

The revised test will consist of five levels: N1, N2, N3, N4, and N5, with N1 being the highest level and N5 the easiest.

N1: generally the same as the original level 1; however, slightly more advanced
N2: the same as the original level 2
N3: in between the original level 2 and level 3
N4: the same as the original level 3
N5: the same as the original level 4

The revised test shall continue to test the same categories as the original. It shall not test oral or writing skills.

I was one of the volunteers who took N3 in November. Boy was that rough!!!! Even the people who were sitting for Level 2 in Dec said it was rough.

I've been browsing around the JLPT website, and while I haven't yet found a page that shows specific test fees/deadlines, it states on their FAQ that the application deadline can be as much as 2-1/2 months before the actual test date.

Does anyone else find it really annoying how they put all of the readings beside the kanji? I end up reading every word twice. I suppose some browsers display it differently.

Likewise, I couldn't see any indication on the web site.

The readings to the side of the kanji is rather annoying at times. I'd rather just use rikaichan/peraperakun to lookup the readings!

Sounds exciting!

I'm registering for 1kyu this summer. I forgot to bring the voucher with me to the test last December and they wouldn't let me take the test. まぢめんどい。。。 Gotta remember it this time...

Also, for those of you interested in a spoken Japanese examination, the BJT might be for you. http://www.jetro.go.jp/en/bjt/
A nice test of business Japanese testing. Many companies will rejoice more over this examination than the JLPT.

Where are the sites in Japan?

Postby adam » January 25th, 2009 2:21 pm

Anyone know where the sites will be? If I remember correctly - the level 2 exam was held somewhere in Chiba (for the Kanto region). Does anyone know where the July exams will be held? I'm thinking about going for level 2 in July and December. Not really expecting to pass it on the first try!

That's what happens when you use a crummy buggy browser like FIREFOX. Load it up in Internet Explorer and you'll see ruby is proper pretty over-the-kanji furigana. Enjoy!
