Is it worth taking the JLPT in its current form?

Postby jkid » July 30th, 2008 7:47 am

Is it worth taking the JLPT in its current form given the changes that are coming in to effect? I would like some opinions. The changes to which I refer are described at:

http://www.jlptstudy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=613

Summary:
1. There will be five levels on a new scale, but most of them will correspond roughly to the current levels.
2. Level 1 will increase in difficulty and they will insert a level in between the current Level 2 and 3.
3. The current format will be available in Dec. 2008, July 2009 (Level 1 and 2 only), and Dec. 2009. The new format will begin in July 2010 (N1 and N2 only).
4. They will stop publishing past tests and official test questions.

Getting the some experience taking the JLPT sooner then later is a great idea in my opinion. I personally believing that waiting until July 2010 is a waste of time. When the new tests come out ... you should be able to up your level !

I have a hard time coming up with specific arguments for why it would still be worth taking only because I have absolutely no idea why it wouldn't still be worth taking. Really, what would those reasons for it to be less 'worth it' be?
