I get where the lesson is coming from, but I can’t get it out of my head that I never came across a ticket machine in Japan that didn’t have an English language mode…

A reading comprehension course for “absolute beginners” should be using vocabulary that an “absolute beginner” would actually *know*. I know the words “tokkyuu” and “futsuu”, but only because I learned them while studying for the JLPT N4, which is a far cry from “absolute beginner”.

Dear team of japanesepod101 and dear users,

Today is your lucky day.
I’ve made a free dictionary which helps the users on here to read and learn the Hiragana/Katakana signs.

This is a fast and playful way to learn them.

download here:
http://www.innervoice.bplaced.net/en/Japanese-Beginners-Dictionary-Intro.pdf
http://www.innervoice.bplaced.net/en/Japanese-Beginners-Dictionary-v1.0.pdf

This is for free, should help you to get many more premium learners as the beginners will make a fast progress
with that method.

mata na

Are there any other reading exercises that you have here that are almost in a test-like format like this video? I can read and write Kana now, but my reading rate is extremely slow. Something else like this would really help I think.
