You didn’t even know what you were going to do that you needed a ticket for. Sometimes, you’re easily confused, especially when it comes to Japanese. “Autumn Jumbo,” your friend says excitedly in Japanese, “It’s the biggest chance to win money in Japan, 200 million yen. 200 million yen! You better hurry up…read the poster! There is a limited number of tickets available!” Confused as usual, you ask in Japanese, “What do you mean it’s a chance to win money? How do you win money? Do I still have time?” Your friend patiently explains the rules of the game in Japanese and you begin to understand. It’s sort of like the lottery back home, only the rules are a little different. Another friend shouts in Japanese, “If you don’t hurry up, they’ll sell out!” Your Japanese friends gather round to tell you how excited they are about the upcoming announcement of the winner. They all bought tickets - some bought a lot! Still filled with a million questions, you ask in Japanese, “Do you win something if you only get a few of the numbers right?” However, they don’t seem to know all the rules either. You had gone to the showroom to look at them, but not because you were really serious about buying one. You just thought they looked great. Japanese motorcycles are known for their unusual, ground-breaking designs. The salesman was so nice, and he didn’t insult your ignorance of motorcycles, and he was patient. And he told you that story about being worried about his job if he didn’t sell another motorcycle this month. You didn’t want him to lose his job, and you really liked the Japanese designs. So you felt a little sorry for him…and you went the full distance. You got all the gear. Now, you’re going to surprise your friend by arriving for lunch by motorcycle. You call out to your girlfriend in Japanese, “You still have three blocks to walk to the restaurant. Wouldn’t you like to ride?” Puzzled, she asks in Japanese, “Do I know you?” Remembering your helmet, you yell out over the roaring engine in Japanese, “Wait, let me take this helmet off. There.” Shocked, she yells back in Japanese, “What are you doing on this motorcycle?” Proudly, you reply, “I bought it? How do you like it?” Attempting to be supportive, your girlfriend stammers and finally offers in Japanese, “But how can a girl ride a motorcycle?”
