I heard Jessi on EnglishPod already with JPod favourite Hirokoさん. I thought her Japanese sounded very natural. It’s surprisingly rare not to cringe when I hear a foreigner speak Japanese, but JPod has been gathering hosts with some great pronunciation skills recently. Maybe I can avoid making people cringe myself one day, too

Since this is Flight JapanesePod 101, I’m waiting for Peter to come on as the captain’s voice welcoming the passengers, but warning of potential turbulence. Jack is already nervous enough . . .

2. How-oh-how did you manage to learn to speak with such a natural accent at age 16?! I thought 11-13 (onset of adolescence) was pretty much the deadline for accent-less learning. Please tell us half your family is Japanese and you were hearing it around the house a lot when you were little…

Anyway, after 2-3 months when I just had too much work to study Japanese seriously, I’m back to obsessive JPod101 study. Great to know there’s fresh blood around’ere…

Can someone talk about when you’d want to use the お-[masu stem]-ください instead of [te form]-ください? I’m so used to dialog such as “ちょっと待ってください” or “教えたください” that this format is throwing me a bit - it seems identical in usage…?

待って。Matte.———————— Very Casual. Used between friends.
待ってください。Matte kudasai.—–Formal.
お待ちください。O-machi kudasai—Honorific. Even more polite than “Matte kudasai.” It’s often used to in the announcement or business situations.

If you are talking to your clients or customers, I recommend that you use “Omachikudasai” instead of “Matte kudasai.”

Yes You can basically use the construction for 教える, 思う(to think), 降りる(to get off),置く（to put） and so on!
But, it’s a bit difficult to say these, isn’t it? Because the お sounds should be pronounced twice in a row
