My Japanese Coach - DS

Postby overtonkate8896 » March 2nd, 2012 7:36 pm

My husband got me this game to help with my studies, something fun to do on top of what I am already doing. It is good fun but I have one concern, when I got to the colour lesson they added い on the end of the colours - for example instead of あか they wrote あかい and instead of
しろ they wrote しろい, having looked at colours via different teaching methods I was confused, I even checked the colour video on this site. Is the game just incorrect or is there another reason for this?

あか is a noun and あかい is an adjective. If you say "I like red" you'd use あか because you're using red as a noun, and if you say "I like red cars" you'd use あかい because you're using red as an adjective to describe the kind of cars you like.

But not all colour words can be used as adjectives by adding い at the end.
