Carl Ward: カール・ワード (if "wa-a-d") or カール・ウォード (if "wo-o-d")

I'm a little confused by the question, but I'll try re-wording Natsuko's answer to see if the helps:-

If Ward sounds like sword or Ford or bored, then the Japanese is ウォード and the romaji is 'woodo' (wo-o-do).

If Ward sounds like barred or card, then the Japanese is ワード and the romaji is 'waado' (wa-a-do).

Written in full your name would be マイケル・ボリジマン which is first name, a separator (the "・") and surname. It's

Michael = マイケル (ma-i-ke-ru)

Bridgman =  ボリジマン  (bo-ri-ji-ma-n).

Hi, double マイケルsan :wink:
Birdgman can also be ブリッジマン since we use ブリッジ for the word "bridge" :wink:
Just an advice.

Oh, yes! That's much better. So it's ブリッジマン (bo-ri-j-ji-ma-n).

...since we use ブリッジ for the word "bridge"

Oh dear, oh dear! Japan, what are you doing? Why use ブリッジ when you've got 橋 (hashi), a proper Japanese word? Same goes for using エレベーター (erebeeta) when you've already got 昇降機 (kyouryou).

:lol: マイケルさん、
well, we actually use 橋 for collective term, not ブリッジ (although some bridges have name with ブリッジ like レインボーブリッジ).
エレベーター...yes, we don't say 昇降機(しょうこうき) for that. :lol:

Haile Selassie.

Not my name, but I am genuinely intrigued as to how it would be rendered in Japanese.

Haile Selassie is written in katakana as ハイレ・セラシエ (ha-i-re se-ra-shi-i).

マイケルさん、Thank you for helps as always! :D
I'm not too sure how to read Haile Selassie, so I cannot really give you the answer.
Maybe マイケルsan's suggestion is correct :wink:

Haile Selassie is an important historical figure so there's an article on Wikipedia Japan about him.

For Roxann I think there are two possibilities:-
ロクサン  ro-ku-sa-n
ロクサーン ro-ku-sa-a-n (sounds more like the song by The Police)

If Mary sounds like "starry" (as in "starry, starry night"):-
マーリー ma-a-ri-i

If Mary sounds like "fairy":-
メアリー me-a-ri-i (most likely)
メーリー me-e-ri-i (possible alternative)

If Mary sounds like Marie (as in Marie Osmond):-
マリー  ma-ri-i

Hope this helps!

xannexjnp9154-san,
kon'nichiwa!
Like マイケルsan already replied to you, your name can be any of those.
As to Mary, マリー or メアリー are most common ways :D

マイケルsan,
Thank you very much, as always! :wink:
