豊臣秀吉
貧しい生まれながら、富と名誉を手に入れた日本史上最も出世をした人といえば、豊臣秀吉でしょう。
前回のブログで、織田信長は全国統一を目前に家臣に裏切られ亡くなってしまった…と紹介しました。信長の死後、その後を継いで全国統一を達成したのが、信長の家臣であった豊臣秀吉です。
秀吉の出生については、農民だったという説と足軽と呼ばれる下級武士だったという説がありますが、いずれにしても身分が低い貧しい家庭に生まれたようです。
織田家で信長の雑用係として働き始めた秀吉は、ある冬の寒い日に信長が外出することを知ります。寒い夜には当然草履も冷えていますので、秀吉は信長のために冷えた草履を懐に入れて暖めておきました。この事で「気のきくヤツだ」と信長の目に留まったのが、秀吉の出世の始まりとか。周りの誰もが不可能だと思うことを創意工夫をもって次々可能にしていく秀吉を信長は認め重用していきます。
信長の死後、信長のかたきを討ち、全国を統一した秀吉は、田畑の面積を調べそれに対する年貢（税金のようなもの）を決める「検地」と呼ばれる調査を全国的に行い、経済基盤をしっかりしたものにします。また、反乱や抵抗をなくし政治の足固めをするため、農民から刀などの武器を取り上げる「刀狩り」も行い成果を納めました。
また、秀吉は人の心をつかむのが天才的にうまかったと言われています。また、秀吉の性格をよく表している句として、「鳴かぬなら、鳴かせてみせようホトトギス」というものも有名です。信長のブログで紹介した句と比較してみると、信長と秀吉の性格の違いがよくわかり面白いですね。
