Learn Japanese with JapanesePod101.com! When you get home from work, your spouse is waiting for you in your Japanese apartment. Since your spouse works from home, your spouse has not talked to anyone in Japanese all day. So as soon as you walk in the door, you’re met with a barrage of questions in Japanese: How was your day? What did you do? Did you go out for lunch? What do you want to do tonight? Finally, you stop your spouse and ask her a question: whether she will let you have some peace and quiet!
In this lesson, you will learn how to ask questions in Japanese using -masu ka. Our Japanese conversation takes place at a supermarket in Japan between three distant family members; since they are not close, they are speaking formal Japanese. Learn Japanese with JapanesePod101.com! When you hear someone singing a song in Japanese about a tortoise and a hare, you immediately recall your childhood. When you tell your Japanese hosts that you love this familiar story, they smile proudly and say that it’s impressive how Japanese folklore has spread far and wide. You think to yourself that you read this fable in a collection written by a Greek author, but maybe you were mistaken…
In this lesson, you will learn about the Japanese song Usagi to Kame, which means “The Tortoise and the Hare.” We’ll discuss how this Japanese song was based on a famous fable that the Japanese have taken to heart. Visit us at JapanesePod101.com, where you will find Japanese lesson notes (remember—this Advanced Audio Blog lesson is spoken entirely in Japanese!) and many more fantastic lessons and learning resources! Learn Japanese with JapanesePod101.com! You wake up in a cold sweat in your Japanese bed. As you wait in the doctor’s waiting room, you become increasingly agitated. Even as a child, your mother always told you in Japanese, “You’re such a bad patient! You need to listen to the doctor’s advice and rest.” Unfortunately, the word “rest” has never been in your Japanese vocabulary, even at an early age. Where most kids always wanted to be sick to miss school, you couldn’t bear the thought of missing your Japanese class. So now when the nurse tells you in Japanese, “Let me take your temperature so we can see what is wrong with you,” you already are convincing yourself that you feel better so you can go to work. When the nurse reads the thermometer, she tells you in Japanese, “Wow, that’s a high fever! You should rest. If you don’t rest, you’ll start feeling worse. Sit still and the doctor will be with you in just a few minutes.” That is not the Japanese advice you wanted to hear!
Learning Japanese with JapanesePod101.com is the most fun and effective way to learn Japanese! This Japanese Beginner lesson will teach you how to offer a strong suggestion or give advice in Japanese. We’ll also teach you how to use Japanese words of frequency.
