Learn Japanese with JapanesePod101.com! Your friend has been pacing around the house screaming (and if you didn’t know better, you’d swear that she was issuing proclamations in Japanese) for the last hour. Concerned that she might be upset about something, you ask her why she has been yelling nonstop in Japanese. She explains that she’s not yelling; she’s simply trying to add emphasis to her words! Someone at work told her not to be a wallflower, so she is practicing. Before she can start up again, you stop her and explain that there is a much easier way!
In this lesson, you will learn how to add emphasis to Japanese phrases that you have already learned. The conversation takes place between three distant family members at one of their homes; therefore, they will be speaking formal Japanese. Learn Japanese with JapanesePod101.com! When your friend asks you whether you want to read a Japanese fairy tale, you’re puzzled. As far as you know, Japanese authors wrote fairy tales for kids, not adults, to enjoy. When you tell your friend that you haven’t read a fairy tale since you were a child, your friend presses a book into your hands and explains that the Japanese author wrote a sophisticated fairy tale book for grown-ups to enjoy. In this lesson, you will learn about Japanese author Kenji Miyazawa and three of his most famous works. You’ll learn why this Japanese author left one of his masterpieces unfinished, and you’ll learn about one of the most famous lines in Japanese literature, which he penned. Visit us at JapanesePod101.com, where you will find Japanese lesson notes (remember—this Advanced Audio Blog lesson is spoken entirely in Japanese!) and many more fantastic lessons and learning resources! Learn Japanese with JapanesePod101.com! When you return to your Japanese apartment, you see that you’ve missed five calls! You were only gone briefly to pick up groceries from the Japanese market, so you couldn’t have missed that much. It turns out the five calls were all from the same Japanese friend. Apparently, something important happened while you were shopping! When you return the call, your friend demands to know where you’ve been. When you explain that you were at the Japanese market, your friend asks you why you were casually shopping during a crisis. Well, not having food is a crisis too! In this lesson, you will learn how to say “during” or “while” in Japanese. Today’s conversation takes place at the office between three Japanese co-workers. One is speaking informal Japanese, while the other two are speaking formal Japanese. Visit us at JapanesePod101.com, where you will find many more fantastic Japanese lessons and learning resources!
