Learn Japanese with JapanesePod101.com! It may seem as if you’re talking to yourself in Japanese, but you don’t care. As you walk down the street with your iPod, you’re saying Japanese words in pairs…each is an antonym of the other. You get some strange looks, but finally one person taps you on the shoulder with a smile, so you decide to interrupt your Japanese lesson and take off your headphones. The person asks you in Japanese, “What are you doing?” You explain in Japanese, “I’m studying for a test.” The person inquires in Japanese, “How can you study for the test while you’re walking with your headphones and talking to yourself?” You put your headphones on the person’s head and say in Japanese, “Listen to this. It’s easy, and I like to maximize my time.” The person nods and says in Japanese, “Oh, okay. That’s great. Multitasking. I wish I could do that!” You tell the person in Japanese, “Oh, but you can! Let me tell you about this great language website, JapanesePod101.com!”

If I can make a pair of requests:
1. Add the kanji list and the vocabulary list in the lesson’s learning center, so I could add some stuff I still don’t know well to my kanji\vocab bank.
2. Add furigana at the words appearing in the lesson notes. Embarrassing to say, but there are a few kanji I don’t know at all (Oh, just a few…)

This is fantastic.
I haven’t visited the site for a while (though I did some kanji drills during the school year, and I had my regular Japanese classes once a week with a real Japanese teacher (I mean she’s honmono no nihonjin) so I haven’t been neglecting my Japanese studies that much) I was planning to start studying for N3, I was gonna ask for some directions on the forums. And now I come here and there’s a JLPT N3 prep course, just starting. You seem to anticipate my needs before I voice them.
I’d like to ask, will you provide full kanji and vocabulary lists for N3?
I’ll go through the kanji and the vocab as the lessons come out, but I like to put stuff like this in some kind of flashcard manager, and review them as a bulk. Compiling the lists myself is real pain, and there’s always a chance I’ll miss something.
What I really need is a kanji list - with all required readings & compounds, and vocabulary list - with written form (kanji+kana), kana trascription and meaning, naturally including level N4 and N5 materials.
This would really simplify things for me. If you don’t plan on realeasing something like that, could you please point me to some other source?
Thank you.

In preparing the listening section of the JLPT test , i notice that the japanese always start their conversation with the sentence “おつかれさまでした/
お疲れ様でした。” Is this a simple greeting or some other meaning?
Will someone advise?
Thanks!

I have a new baby, so I’m not sure if I’ll be able to travel to take the JLPT this year. But this is a great series! I’ve passed the old level three but will aim for the new level three, probably.
I’d like to second the idea of having furigana next to the vocabulary words. There were a few (like fountain pen and leather shoes) I didn’t know.
Thanks!

and haven’t replied your comment.
Thank you for the great feed back.
1. About adding kanji/vocab list to the learning center, actually it’s a good idea. I’ll propose your idea in our next meeting.
2. I’ve just added the reading in Hiragana underneath the Kanji. Please download the lesson notes again.

Thank you so much for the comment.
I’m sorry that I’ve overlooked your comment
We’re not planning to make full lists of vocab/Kanji /grammar for any levels.
I searched on the internet and found some websites have lists. However I’m not sure how reliable they are.
Maybe get one もんだいしゅう and study with it is the best way to study for the test I guess.

お疲れ様です is used as a greeting at working environment. I could mean “hello” or “bye” depending on the context.

Thank you for the feedback!
I’ve just added Hiragana underneath the Kanji.

I wanted to take N4 this year as well as register this week, I noticed that the place where I supposed to go for the test on the website, the registration was already over by monday (6/9/2010)
. So I’m planning to take N3 next year July as I will start listening to this someday
.
では、また!

In the the sample sentences お湯を沸かしてください,
What is the difference between 沸かす and 炊く?
Thanks.
Friday at 6:00 pm
Also in the sentence 壁にさわらないでください、why is it に not を?
Monday at 12:08 pm
jenchanted -san
Generally speaking, we use 沸かす for hot water. 炊く is for cooking rice and ゆでる for boiling other ingredient.
You can also say 壁を触らないでください. The meaning is the same. Particle ni can indicate the surface of something.

Thanks so much!! This prep course is exactly what I need for N3
You said that you guys are working through the JLPT levels, so hopefully the N2 will be done by the time I finish N3. Thanks again, it’s great!

This is a great idea! I did N3 in the last round, but only just passed, so this will be great review. Just out of curiosity, is there a time-line for the release of N2 lessons? It seems like JapanesePod has plans to do the full series, if I understand correctly?
Thanks!

JP101 Team,
Do you have plans to add any more features to the “Premium” column? Seems like the N3 portion is getting off to a much less robust start than the other categories on your site. For example, under the “WORK” section for Intermediates there are 3-5 very helpful review tools. In comparison to that “WORK” section, this seems a bit like self study in the traditional sense of simply getting an N3 book and doing rote memorization.
Thanks in advance for any feedback or insight you can provide.
Cheers,
Brendon

Hello, yesterday I got my certificate for JLPT N4. I’ve passed. Thank you very much to the team. Unfortunately in preparing for N3 I miss exercises relating to the great amount of new expressions and words. #2 and #3 demotivated me a little bit. Could you please care for a little more practice relating to the lessons or give a hint which other lessons in JapanesePod can support the learned vocabulary and expressions. Thank you. Best, Franziska

Will you guys start a new series for the new N2 level?
Tuesday at 3:01 pm
Dear Japanesepod101 team,
Its a great effort to see the mysterious N3 level made easy on your website. I am finding it great
. I jus have one suggestion to you guys. It would be great if you can also upload a mock test kind of thing specifict to JLPT new levels.
This may help students also understand the type of questions more in detail and get a fair idea of their level of knowledge.
Hope this helps all the JLPT learners. Hope to expect more on the other levels too.
Keep up the great work!
Thank you,
Viji
