However, the first thing you open is a summons to be a citizen judge on the Japanese criminal court. You exclaim in Japanese, “I love doing community service, but this takes it to a whole new level!” You sigh and sink into the nearest chair, turn on the TV, and become lost in thought as you watch the Japanese news. Meanwhile your roommate hears you come in and you tell her in Japanese that you’ve been summoned to court. She asks in Japanese, “To court? What did you do?” You respond in Japanese, “Silly, I didn’t do anything! I’m serving as a judge in court.” She responds in Japanese, “You mean you hold someone’s fate in your hands? Ah, the power! Don’t let it go to your head!”

Rough night last night?” You respond in Japanese, “Very funny…let me come over there and cough on you and we’ll see whether I’m hung over or really sick.” The receptionist responds in Japanese, “That’s gross. I don’t know why you sick people just don’t stay home from work so the rest of us don’t get sick!”
