Learn Japanese with JapanesePod101.com! At most film screenings in Japan and elsewhere, the attraction is the film…not the scenery in the theater. In fact, most movie theaters are deliberately plainly decorated so as not to interrupt the moviegoing experience for all viewers, including the Japanese. Besides, all Japanese movie theaters are dark for most of the time you’re in them, so your surroundings don’t show. However, one Japanese director recently decided to break new ground with his movie project. In a showing of his film in Japan, he added some innovative surroundings that were the talk of the viewers of his Japanese film. This backdrop for his Japanese project was like no other!

Learning Japanese with JapanesePod101.com is the most fun and effective way to learn Japanese! This Japanese Audio Blog lesson will tell you exactly what it is the Japanese film director used to decorate his venue. It will also describe the impact this Japanese director’s décor had on his audience as well as discuss the creative process in Japanese. Visit us at JapanesePod101.com where you will find Japanese Lesson notes (remember-this lesson is spoken entirely in Japanese!) as well as many more fantastic Japanese lessons and learning resources! Leave us a message while you are there!

At long last, you are providing transcripts not only of the lesson itself but of the discussion surrounding it, in this case the chat between Natsuko and Take. I can’t tell you what an improvement this makes, having the transcript available to follow the conversation. Here is where we get to hear some real japanese talk, with the normal hesitations and interjections people use in everyday life. I was surprised that both Natsuko and Take were so unfamiliar with the world of independent films, but this may be because of a difference in what such films are inside and outside of Japan. In the USA, independent films no longer present an image of avant-gardism or narrow focus, but are often widely popular, plot and character driven, with major actors and directors involved. Even the enormously popular My Big, Fat, Greeki Wedding was an indie, produced for only $5 million while raking in nearly $300,000. So, while there are many “experimental” and “nocommercial” indies, there are just as many that are meant for general audiences and with aspirations to make money. Most such films are simply independent of the major studios’ financing, with the money raised privately. The same directors and stars who work for the big studios frequently appear in indies. And, of course, many indie actors and directors are complete unknowns.

That should be $300 million, not $300,000!!
