Now that Japanesepod101.com has finally included a real Japanese conversation (the interview between Natsuko and Takamura)--a giant step forward for these lessons--how about going a bit further and adding a few helpful notes for some of the trickier passages? I'm not saying a full translation is necessary, but there are a few problematic places where some of us could benefit from useful feedback. For example, the word マッドシテイ, which is surely a gairaigo but is not immediately recognizable nor in the dictionary (it's probably very obvious), or why Takamura says げん担ぎ rather than just 担ぎ. Anyway, it's something to consider, ね.

これはいいですね！興味深い話は聞けるようです。

私はサンフランシスコ出身ですが、今サンフランシスコの日本町に「New People」というギャラリーカフェーみたいな所があります。現代日本文化を中心にしていろいろなイベントがあったり、作品が展示したりします。サンフランシスコに行く方がいたら、ぜひ行ってみてください。

ところで、こちらも初めてのJapanese Pod101に投稿したコメントですが、よろしくおねがいします。

@Kat

haha, yea that's what I'm trying to avoid. :P
You guys should interview some yakuza, or japanese men over age 50, the ones who always grunt and talk really low. Those accents sound the coolest. I remember one lesson from jpod where yakuza were talking about their kitty charm, but that was it. hahaha

Jですさん
Yes!! You have the right idea about listening to more male Japanese! がんばってくださいね! I can't tell you the number of non-Japanese men I've met who sound like girls when they speak Japanese... not their fault, just down to the facts that a) most Japanese teachers are women and human beings learn by imitation and b) that textbooks obviously teach polite (= feminine) Japanese! One of my everlasting memories will be of in first year of university, my (female) Japanese teacher teaching us how to make telephone calls, and having all the guys in the class say "じゃバイバイ！" at the end of the conversation... :roll: So please keep listening to Mr. Takamura and get your Japanese butch! Grrrr! :mrgreen:

Awesome!

Finally another guy voice on jpod101!

While the girls all have very nice voices, I feel silly trying to imitate naomi or natsuko's tone of voice and pitch when i'm a guy with a deep voice.

Please have more of this guy on the show, his voice is similar to mine and I'd like to practice imitating how he speaks japanese so I can speak more naturally.

すごいいレッサンですよ
