That 思われる doesn’t carry the passive meaning, but it’s a honorific expression.
As you may have probably known, the passive case expresses honorific for regular verbs.
Here’s the example for 思う
どう思いますか。 What do you think? - formal language.
どう思われますか。ーhonorific language
Of course you can say
どうお思いになりますか。-also honorific language

I hope this makes sense.

Perhaps because the base sentence of the subordinate clause is:
1) 明治神宮は（人に）不思議に思われる

But I’m also tempted to think that it’s also passive honorific, e.g.
2) 人は明治神宮について不思議に思われる (= 思う)

Don’t know which one is actually being used though, so I’m also expecting answer from someone who knows better.

I don’t quite understand the grammer of this sentence: 「大都会のど真ん中に、神社？」と不思議に思われる人もいる

why is the passive 思われる used here? I think I would have said something like … 不思議だと思っている人もいる

Shinto is basically a nature worship. (Well…it depends on the shrine but generally speaking.)
So as long as, YOU don’t mind (or it wouldn’t be a problem for your religion )visiting shrine, you’re always welcome.

明治神宮という神社は何度も聞いたことあるけど、どんな場所かはぜんぜんわからなかったので、このレッスンはとても勉強になりました。

新しい単語も数個出てきて(皇太后、地場とか)、すっごく面白いと思います。次のを楽しみにしてます。

ザ・日本３:明治神宮みなさん、こんにちは。ユリのオーディオブログです。今日は、日本の神社、「明治神宮」についてお話します。明治神宮は明治天皇と昭憲皇太后を祀る東京都渋谷区にある神社です。お正月恒例の初詣では、毎年、日本一の参拝客数を集めていることで有名です。明治神宮は、原宿駅のすぐ隣にあります。原宿は渋谷と並び、若者で賑わうスポットのひとつです。「大都会のど真ん中に、神社？」と不思議に思われる人もいるかもしれませんが、本当に存在しています。明治神宮に入ると外の人ごみや騒音が嘘のように、静寂な空間が広がっています。入口を入るとそこは森。生い茂った木々の長い長いアーチをゆっくり歩くだけでも癒されます。そこを通り抜けると、やがて本堂が見えてきます。お参りする前には、手を洗う場所があります。神社の中に流れる新鮮な水で両手を洗い、最後に口もすすぎます。自分自身を清めてから参拝するのがルールです。また、明治神宮は、都内有数のパワースポットとしても有名です。「地場自体の「気」の流れがいいので、そこへいくと気持ちがすっきりして元気になるよ」と友人に勧められたので、私も何度か行ってみました。明治神宮には、本堂以外にも、庭園や結婚式場などの見どころがあるのですが、広い敷地内をどれだけ歩いても、不思議と疲れませんでした。むしろ、もっと歩いて散策してみたい…。そんな気持ちになりました。明治神宮は、都会のオアシス。お参りすることはもちろん、フラッと入って森林浴を楽しむこともできます。皆さんも日本を訪れた際には、ぜひ足を運んでみてくださいね。
