みなさん,
Did you get the 親父ギャグ that Yuichi said?
「アルミ缶の上にあるみかん」
Do you know any other だじゃれ?
Thursday at 12:07 am
Here is an easy one for you guys:
イルカがいるか?
Thursday at 1:24 am

Thursday at 7:41 am
I Can’t find any translation for this sentence, (sorry for being off topic)
王さまサミットにむけて, いざ出航!!
From the book (王さまのふしぎチョコレート)
Thanks

hahaha, I’m still laughing at mieth’s…
Thursday at 1:36 pm
The last time I commented was like 3 months ago; why are you guys so curious about it though?
Thursday at 4:37 pm
Hi everyone!
Thanks for all of your comments and だじゃれ. Those are all great!!
Rhysさん,
Basically, we like to hear from our listeners who haven’t commented in awhile. We love getting comments and questions from our listeners and want to encourage more interaction!!
Thursday at 5:29 pm
I listen to 全国こども電話相談室•リアル! sometimes, but I think the hosts just get a kick out of listening to the problems of the younger generation, they don’t seem to help them that much =P
Anyways nice だじゃれ everyone, I haven’t heard the 「ニューヨークで入浴する」one.
Danielさん、
The sentence means (how i’d translate it anyways): “The king points toward the summit and says、set sail!”
next time post your question in the forum, I think it could use the activity.

いか も たべて いいか? Another simple one.

Sorry I haven’t commented in so long! I was big into commenting in Peter-san’s heyday. Gotta say though, all the Japanese I didn’t understand in this ‘lower’ intermediate lesson is pretty depressing
I’m sure it would help with the lesson notes but next to the other study tools I use, the sites fees are just outrageous, or atleast out of my reach at the moment. I will try to stay up w/ the community though, in hopes those connections help studying.
And yes, that “Hankyu very much” is absolutely the worst!
Saturday at 4:38 am
i thought this lesson was very good, many useful expressions and words, and the actors did a great job of sounding real while still being easy to understand.
でわ質問を数回あります:
@7:13 what does naomi say?うとし?
ほかの駄洒落の表現は”親父がく”?この”がく”はどういう意味ですか?
@7:40ゆいちが言う:あるみかんの上にあるみかん”この駄洒落を説明してください。
what does naomi say at 10:47-10:51?
日本語を勉強初めてとき駄洒落をよく作ったんだけど友達が困らせたやめました。
”星が欲しい”ていうみたいな駄洒落
Saturday at 4:42 am
also i’m still having trouble with the vocab sample sentences not including kana. if i get a premium membership do i get these examples with kana as well? one problem is that i cant highlight them to copy into a translator so i get stuck. also what is the difference between lesson notes and lesson notes lite? when i click on regular lesson notes i get a blank so maybe my navigator is too old?
Monday at 6:52 am
Aaron San,
Arigatougozaimashita!
Monday at 10:21 am
Aaronさん,
That show sounds pretty interesting! Is it on the radio? How do you listen to it?
stuさん,
Great video!
Allenさん,
Ooh, nice one
Robさん,
Thanks for coming back to comment!! Don’t hesitate to ask us about anything you don’t understand. We hope you stop by and comment more
ヤドカリさん,
@07:13, うっとうしい, which is “annoying” or “lame”
Oh, and the other name for 駄洒落 is 親父ギャグ - ギャグ is just from the English word “gag”.
@07:40 アルミ缶の上にあるみかん - The mikan (mandarin orange) on top of an aluminum can. Here アルミ缶 and あるみかん are the same.
@10:47 Here, Naomi said: 「そう、訳すと面白くもなんともないよね」… “When you translate it, it’s not funny or anything”
Also, we don’t currently have kana for the vocab sample sentences, but we are currently looking into ways to include it in the PDFs.
The Lesson Notes Lite is a version that can be viewed on any OS (especially Macs, which have some trouble with the regular Lesson Notes).
Monday at 10:52 am
in the vocab examples there is
いいペンネームが思いつかない
which tsuku is being used here? is this the same tsuku used with uso? is there another lesson covering this verb combination?
thank you
Monday at 11:15 am
ヤドカリ-san
思いつく is one verb meaning “to think of”
Tuesday at 11:12 pm
shouldnt it be じょく joku?
my favorite one “i made up” is karate
karage ( piece of chicken in hand, Hand is now not empty)
several different ways to say/use it.
Wednesday at 9:56 am
Raymasakiさん,
ジョーク is another word you hear in Japanese. I don’t think ジョーク is used for だじゃれ, though, I think it refers to a different kind of joke… like for example, アメリカンジョーク. Maybe one of the native senseis could shed some more light on this
Friday at 8:15 am
Jpod-san
Is saseru only for living beings. “I want to make this drawing bigger*, “I want to make this line smaller”. How to say those in 日本語 Is there any lesson regarding this? I think this is not casuative. Please shed some light
Thanks

Thank you for posting a great question.
You can use causative for non living things. However for your sentence case( to say “to make something in a certain state” ), it would be natural to use [adverbial form of adjective ]+suru.
Are you familiar with this usage of suru meaning “make”?
For example
●わたしは部屋をあたたかくする I’m going to make my room warm.
●わたしは部屋をきれいにする I’m going to make my room clean.
The formation is
●[na adjective/Noun] +にする
●[i adjective; replace “i” with “ku “]+する
So the phrases you want to use to compose your sentences are (I know you can do it by yourself though
)
大きくする and 小さくする.
This grammar point will be covered in the future lessons.
