Hey, I enjoyed this prep course and it does seem to be a good breakdown of what the test was like prior to 2009 however I managed to get my hands on a sample test of N5 from 2010 onwards and there does seem to be some changes. For example in the Reading & Grammar section Mondai 2 is different. Now you have to arrange 4 words to fit them into blanks spaces to make a sentence. The object is give the right word of the blank with a star on it.

Also I tried some of the JLPT practice tests. I'm not sure of their true worth though, for instance are we really going to be asked the Kanji for あまのがわ　（天の川）　in JLPT N5. I had never even heard of this or the mythological tale that goes with it.

Hey, I'm not sure if this thread is still being monitored.

But in the transcript for sample question 3 (about what the girl did in Hokkaidou) what does いったの translate to?

Cheers

This prep course series proved to be extremely useful! I went through the entire 6 lessons as a revision and they definitely helped a lot when I sat for my JLPT this year. Really hope that there would also be similar prep course series for the other levels next year (especially now that they are changing to new test format). Thanks so much again! :)

Thanks for all of the feedback everyone! We're glad to hear that you found this series helpful

To answer some questions:

Richさん,
There is one listening section with 17 questions total. I took a look at some past tests and saw that the questions with pictures and those without are split almost evenly - 8 of one type and 9 of the other.

Tessさん,
Yes, both polite and casual Japanese shows up on the JLPT, even at Level 4.

Thanks for this Last Minute Prep Course. The information about the test structure and content is not easy to find, so this review was very helpful and timely.
Thanks again.

I have really enjoyed this series. Whilst I'm not sitting for the JLPT, I feel this has been an excellent review and has highlighted my strengths and weaknesses. Up until lesson 4, I was thinking "Hey, I can do this." Lessons 5 and 6 on listening have made me realise it might be just as well that I have to wait another year!! I need to make the connection between my ear and brain work just a little faster. I seem to spend so much time trying to translate what I hear that the next sentence is half over before I know it! Then panic sets in once I realise that in a real test, I'd only get one shot at hearing it. I'm usually pretty good after about the 6th repeat in catching most of the dialogue!

Just one question .... are the dialogues and questions always in Polite Japanese in these tests, or is Casual Japanese sometimes thrown into the mix?

I'm not sure that I understand the format and time limit for the Listening section of the test. Your lesson notes say that there are 17 questions and the period is 25 minutes. But you presented two types of questions, those with pictures and those without pictures, just spoken dialogue.

Are there two listening sections of 17 questions, 25 minutes each. If there is only one section, what is the split between the two types of questions?
