Learn Japanese with JapanesePod101.com! You walk towards the Japanese train station with trepidation in your heart and probably written all over your face. It’s your first time to try to get to work on the train by yourself. This will be an exercise in Japanese Kanji because there’s not much else in the train stations. This will really test your knowledge because everything is arranged for speed and efficiency, and everyone is moving quickly because it’s the rush hour. First, you must buy your ticket. There’s the sign. You recognize the Japanese Kanji for “ticket”. That’s the right place. Oh no, it’s not a ticket booth with an attendant, it’s an automatic machine. You can see the button displaying the Japanese Kanji for buying a commuter pass, and you can see where to insert your money. You can even read the Japanese that tells you this is the total you’ve inserted! You push another button, and out pops your ticket. Finally, you’re on your way as you hurry to your train. You even find the right station to get OFF the train. However, as you try to move through the ticket gate, it won’t let you through. Panic! Now, you must ask for help. A kind person sends you to another machine as understanding dawns. You can read the Japanese on the machine - “fare adjustment.” You didn’t put in enough money to begin with.
